I spent weeks in Ireland.  I LOVE red heads.  I thought I would see them all over the place.  I didn't see a single one.  I asked the locals I worked with where the red heads were.  I got called a dumb yank, and got a chuckle.  Coming home I flew on Aer Lingus.  Sitting next to me was a very attractive blonde haired lady.  We introduced ourselves and talked.  I found out she was a hair dresser.  I asked her why I didn't see any red heads in Ireland.  She called me a dumb yank and laughed.  She said the only red heads in Ireland had been to her (or another hair dressers) shop before becoming a red head.  I do not think that being Irish makes it likely to be a red head.

However

I lived in the UK for 3 years.  I loved to go to Scotland.  Every time I went to Scotland I saw a number of red heads.  I think the red heads in Ireland are Scots.  See this article on Scotch-Irish.  So maybe there were red heads in Ireland, they were Scots.

Oh, yah... I love the red head on those covers too.

Well, I've personally known some Irish-American redheads (my big crush, Kathy Brady from Lakeland (Florida) High School - le sigh) who said all the women in their family got their red hair from the Irish grandmother.  That's the same as in my family.  I have two half sisters (we share the same mother) who both had red hair.  My mother's maiden name was Donovan.  When I was younger, my beard was reddish brown, but showed the red big time when I was out in the sun.  My best friend growing up had hair so red it was orange, and he got it from his Irish ancestors.  There ARE redheads in Ireland.  The Irish side of my family is living proof.  I'm not saying there are many, but they're there.  That's part of the charm, though.  If there were very many of them, they wouldn't be so exceptional.  The problem with Ireland is that it's a melting pot like the US.  There have been migrations/invasions by a number of ethnic groups into Ireland, which has served to dilute the Norse gene for red hair which is the source of most redheaded folk in that part of the world.

From Wikipedia:

Today, red hair is most commonly found at the northern and western fringes of Europe; it is associated particularly with the people located in the United Kingdom and in Ireland (although Victorian era ethnographers claimed that the Udmurt people of the Volga were "the most red-headed men in the world").  Redheads are common among Germanic and Celtic peoples.

Redheads constitute approximately 4 percent of the European population.  Scotland has the highest proportion of redheads; 13 per cent of the population has red hair and approximately 40 per cent carries the recessive redhead gene.  Ireland has the second highest percentage; as many as 10 per cent of the Irish population has red, auburn, or strawberry blond hair.  It is thought that up to 46 percent of the Irish population carries the recessive redhead gene.  A 1956 study of hair colour amongst British army recruits also found high levels of red hair in Wales and the English Border counties.

Hello Heroes
The Mighty Moms Lottery winner's picture is finally posted. I'm not sure what most of you were expecting from this but here's a pregnant Sentinel of Twilight in her personalized maternity dress. I know I drew it but both me and my girlfriend think this is adorable. Congratz to Twi, I hope you like it.
