Game News
Welcome
Welcome to <Baby Corn> Cookery!

Lets get this out of the way first. Why Baby Corn? The explaination is quite simple. Most of our founding members have been playing WoW for quite some time. We've found that many players and guilds take themselves way too seriously. While guild tags like <D00M Squad> and <Hells Infidels> sound "cool", they dont really strike fear into their opponents hearts or make the players any better. In fact, it tends to feed people's l33t ego. We aren't trying to impress anyone and, like our guild name, we dont take ourselves too seriously. We are out to have fun and lay a smack-down on anyone who crosses Baby Corn!

The Vision

Our goal is to provide an environment in which you can log onto your favorite game and have a blast. Forget about all the stress of work, home and real life. This is what games are made for and we intend to stay true to this.

Warning! We are immature! ...in a mature sort of way. We are all adults here and have professional lives, responsibilites and some of us spouses and kids. There is very little opportunity during our day to kick back and release the stress of life. This is the place to let it loose and flame your friends.

There are a few rules and requirements:

*Must be 18 years of age or older. We do not want to be responsible for corrupting young minds.

*Must have Ventrilo. This is where the party is!

*Must have a sense of humor. Seriously, if you are easily offended then this is not the place for you.

Who Was General Tso And Why Are We Eating His Chicken?
Native1001, Mar 7, 07 11:21 AM.

Each evening, thousands of Americans drift into Chinese restaurants or, if they are too lazy to go out, pick up the phone and order one of the most popular dishes on the menu: General Tso's Chicken, a sugary-spicy melange of dark-meat tidbits, deep-fried then fired up with ginger, garlic, sesame oil, scallions and hot chili peppers.

Not one in 10,000 knows who General Tso (most commonly pronounced "sow") was, nor what terrible times he lived through, nor the dark massacres that distinguished his baleful, belligerent career. Setting their chopsticks aside, patting their stomachs, the satisfied diners spare scarcely a thought for General Tso, except to imagine that he must have been a great connoisseur of hot stir-fried chicken.

What the hell is baby corn anyway?
Native1001, Mar 1, 07 11:45 AM.

We had heard that this salad bar staple was called baby corn, so we searched on that term to figure out its origin. We soon discovered that those tiny corncobs aren't genetically mutated dwarf ears of corn -- they're just immature ears of regular corn.

Many varieties of corn can be used to produce baby corn. Seed companies offer special types of seed to grow baby corn, but all of these grow plants and corn ears that are just as big as the corncobs you might have at a summer BBQ. The secret is in the harvesting. Baby corn ears are picked by hand immediately when the silks emerge from the ear tips or a few days after. Corn matures quickly, so the harvest must be timed carefully to avoid ending up with normal corn ears. Baby corn ears are generally 4.5cm to 10cm in length and 7mm to 17mm in diameter.

Most baby corn commercially available in the U.S. is grown and processed in Asia, particularly in Thailand. Because baby corn must be picked by hand, it is too labor-intensive for most American farms. It's been an extremely important crop in Thailand since 1976, and other Asian nations have also begun producing and exporting it. Perhaps this is why baby corn is so often found in Asian recipes.

Next time you enjoy a mini cob, think of the poor little baby corn, cut down before its prime.
