The Captain is, sadly, not the class it once was.  This shows inside of BG - where we're stretched to the limit.  Unfortunately, this means that we've taken to running with ONE Captain, and our runs have been smoother than ever.  If you can stick with the Captain class and get a good Emblem, you can do your job in BG very easily, and I hope you do.

EQUIPMENT

The standard equipment works, but I recommend a very WILL-heavy build, including the top-tier Outgoing Healing / Tac Crit settings (Vigour) Though a level 65 Emblem is hard to get, and as such, it is not an RC *requirement* - you can get by with a good LVL 59/60.

A Buffstick will be important, and I highly stress IDoME duration as a Legacy on a buffing Emblem, though this is not as of yet an RR requirement, it likely will be for the LT Fight.  On Guard, Relentless Attack and Motivating are all required for RR.  Make Haste Duration will further be required for the LT fight.



SLOTTING/ TRAITING

Currently, I believe a Capt should slot as such:

Legendary:

Hands of Healing (Capstone)

It is possible that slotting for the LT will be different, keep an eye out for that, but we do not yet have RR for that fight established.

For the actual traits themselves, I would recommend:
- Now for Wrath
- Relentless Optimism
- Fear no Darkness
- Strong Voice
- Captain's Hope

- not Strength from Within

- Captain of War
- Defiance


I recommend NOT slotting Strength from Within for several reasons - it's a good trait - BUT.. there are times where you will be required to MC for an ally who has a fear potion on cooldown, perhaps - and having the ability to use a Herald rather than a banner is a must for the second boss fight.

You'll be using Inspire a lot for Durchest while everyone is grouped up, and you'll be using Bolter on the tank(s).
You'll be using Bolster a lot for Cargaraf/Morgaraf as people get pretty spread out and there's no real AoE damage, but LOTS of single-target spike damage.

The Rune-keeper is by far one of the most useful classes in Barad Guldur; and as such, your RK should be decked out pretty heavily to make yourself as useful as possible.

EQUIPMENT

Every RK should bring with them their normal set of equipment and also 2x [Sage's Greenwood Earring] and 2x [Sage's Greenwood Bracelet] because the Lieutenant fight puts your ICPR down to ZERO so having an enormous power pool is quite helpful.

As with the RC requirements, every RK should have their fire stone, lightning stone, healing stone, DPS satchel, and healing satchel because they will likely be using all of them over the course of the raid. See below for more info on LIs.



SLOTTING/ TRAITING

There is still some debate about what is the best way to trait/ slot for BG, but I will give my opinion as to what is the most effective.

After parsing and comparing damage from both fully-fire spec'd and fully-lightning spec'd (Thanks Lanfeer!) I have noticed that the numbers are actually fairly close! Now while fire spec will usually do more damage in the long run for big fights; however, most of the fights in BG require a lot of moving, switching targets, periods of burst DPS, and periods of NO dps; therefore, It is my belief that a 4/2/1 build is best for BG (unless you are healing of course).

I recommend slotting 4 down the lightning line

-Closing Remarks

The usual 2 Linnods:

-Linnod of Peace-Linnod of Subtlety

And rather than a 5th lightning, throw on

-Writ of Blazing Fire


To help you maintain your tier 3 writ of fires.

Slot whichever legendary then since no capstone can be used.


If you are healing (IE against boss #2, the twins) I recommend the usual 5 down the healing line

More than likely you will be serving the role as off-tank in this raid. If that is the case, I will still recommend slotting 5 down the healing line with all 3 masteries and the shield capstone. 2 down the threat line is nice, BUT doing so requires you to either give up 1 of the masteries or the shield capstone, both of which are fantastic.

when fighting multiple mobs in trash pulls like the gauntlet, as always, EoB, WC, and Conviction will do the trick, but make sure that if the guardian is tanking the Uruks (like in the gauntlet) that you do not pull off him by mistake.

Fidelity and Innocence are highly recommended for this raid because of the amount of shadow damage you receive, not to mention the usual melee.

A couple of general rules for the inexperienced warden:
-For group aggro, EoB, WC, and Conviction are best for holding aggro as long as you have the legacies maxed out on a MH
-For Single-target aggro, Precise Blow mixed with a little conviction is your best bet.

As far as Traiting/slotting:
For your legendaries, make sure to have The shield capstone, DEFIANT CHALLENGE, and whatever for your last. The force taunt is extremely important in there for some of the boss fights so make sure to have it slotted.

There is not a lot to say about the Warden really. Truth be told, they are not as useful in there as I would like currently. With any luck, Turbine will change it so melee has more of a role in Barad Guldur. But, as long as you have a great tanking weapon with EoB and WC threat up, a good javelin with Conviction Healing and ICPR, and understand the class, you will do fine in there.

Two ~100k mobs are what stands between you and The Gauntlet.  One is fire called an Armoured Flame-axe, the other is shadow called Armoured Shadow-mace.  This fire/shadow idea is a theme throughout the raid.  In a nutshell, have the main tank grab the Flame-axe and pull him to the left while everyone else DPS's the Shadow-mace on the right.  Remove corruptions as they come up and stay out of any fire puddles from the fire guardian.

Guldur Uruks: 40k morale Uruks who are tough and hit like freight trains.  Stay away if you're squishy.
Guldur Wargs: 18k morale doggies that are your primary DPS focus.
Guldur Goblins: Ranged Goblins that usually harass the healers.  They can crit big.

This is a run-n-gun.  However, don't get in too big of a hurry.  Keep the Uruks in front of the group with the tank maintaining agro.  If any come from the back, pull them to the tank.  They hit very hard.  You don't want their agro.  As you continue up stairways and through corridors, you will be continually attacked by these Uruks, Wargs and Goblins.  Kill the Wargs first while the tank maintains agro on the Uruk(s).  Once the wargs are dead, have a hunter or hunters start DPS'ing a single Uruk while the group finishes off any Goblins.  Continue to pick off one Uruk at a time while moving forward and killing wargs first.  You will stop at the mid-point in the stairs that lead to the first boss' room.  Kill any remaining mobs.  The mobs don't stop coming until you get to this point.  CJ's may wipe the group so only have 2 or 3 do green or blue unless everything is 'under control'.

Easy Mode: Kill Durchest first.
Hard Mode: Kill Durchest last after killing all his summoned adds.

Two phases to Hard Mode: Zerg-ball & Kite-fest.
Zerg-ball: Everyone run up to Durchest.  Who ever has agro (main tank, hopefully) needs to keep him turned away from the group who should be standing *directly* behind him.  If someone else gets Durchest's agro, spin Durchest around to keep his back to the group.  While you DPS him down, some adds spawn and they should be killed quickly.  Some of these adds will do small knockbacks to the entire group.  This is very annoying for healers and other induction-based classes.  Also, some adds may put a morale debuff on the tank, so healers beware.
Kite-fest: Once Durchest gets to around 80k morale (might be more or less...don't remember), you will want to start kiting him around the room and *NOT* DPS him any more.  He may change targets so who ever has agro, run him around the room.  Durchest will be slowed at this point (why he is slowed..I don't remember).  Then someone needs to start using the levers in the back of the room.  These will summon adds.  Pull one lever at a time  Kill each add as you pull the lever.  Once all levers have been pulled and adds killed, finish off Durchest.  Hard Mode accomplished!  Easy Mode would be to kill Durchest before pulling the levers.  In fact, I'm not even sure if you have to pull the levers for Easy Mode.
