All,

A lot has happened w/ the game in the last few months.  We've had a new expansion and an update on top of that.  If you haven't played in a while, then consider...

Two new raids.  Draigoch is a lair raid very similar to the Watcher but MUCH cooler.  It's not hard, per se, but you do have to know the mechanics and the loot is really nice.  The latest raid is the Tower of Orthanc and it is sweet.  It's similar in design to Ost Dunhoth, where there are 3 wings you can do in any order, then a 4th boss, then Saruman of Many Colours!  That fight is nuts.

RoI has a great Epic story line (and this is coming from someone who never pays attention to those things), and lots of land area, and update 5 added an instance cluster along w/ the ToO raid.  With the new raid comes 3 new armor sets, one for each trait line.

The stats have been merged somewhat so now there is just Tactical and Physical Mastery where we used to have Tac/Range/Melee dmg, and with the caps on the regular stats removed, we're seeing some crazy builds.

Anyway, I realize many players are playing other games, and some players have had lots of RL going on (*cough* Leth *cough*), but I would encourage everyone who hasn't played much or at all over the last few months to get back into it a bit.  It's turning into a pretty decent MMO

Nice review, Harl

I'm a bit daunted by the changes tbh - how on earth can I get my stats up without spending loads of cash?

I'm back in the USA - til Feb 20 at least - but consumed with work (big surprise).  Still, I've been interested in trying out Isengard, always one of my fave bits of the entire LoTR.  Can one dive into the epic or does one need to do that Nar's peak line first and so on?

are the Inks battling Saruman weekly?

No need to spend cash.  That only nets you 70 stat points which isn't much considering all the new gear, etc.  The dmg that champs and LMs are doing now is pretty sick.  Minstrels, too, but it's still not sustainable in long fights.

Jump back in and check it out.  The RoI epic is pretty cool and very long.  I think it does start at Nar's Peak.

Get back in here, Leth!

I would finish the story line in Enedwaith (even though I hate running up to Nar's Peak) before I went into Dunland, but its fun.  My Guardian, Minstrel and Champion are 75, Guardian is well eqiupped (I still pine for a couple of pieces), but the others still need work.  Harl is right, Draigoch is a neat concept, and once folks are educated and can follow BASIC instructions, its a PUG-able raid.

Champs are stacked!  If you trait flurry and use fervour, you get permanent flurry.  I cannot go all out dmg on my champ without pulling aggro, I always have to hold back.  Sudden Defence and Heroics are awesome.  SD is a near 2k bubble and Heroics is over 3k, SD is on a 2-3m CD and Heroics is 5?  If both your bubbles are on CD, you can go all out and just bubble.  On my champ, I love the big yellow numbers and to watch my DPS in Combat Analysis.  I trait 4r/3y most of the time.  They changed a couple of the traits, so you may have to re-trait your champ.

Tower of Orthanc is a pretty good raid, I would have liked it to have less bugs.  It is easy enough on tier 1, as Harl says the design is a lot like OD in that t1 is easier and trash does not respawn if you wipe and t2 is harder, but by harder, I mean, each trash pull should have a chest.  The first wing I did on tier 2, we raided 5-6 hours to get through 3 trash rooms and only tried the boss 2x, because we were worn out.  Tier 2 is so hard, no one has legitmately beaten Saruman on t2 yet, although a few kins are close on other servers.

I have been pleased with the game, but the introduction of SW:TOR is hurting a lot of raiding groups and people are shuffling around.
