Hi All,

     The latest patch has apparently gone live today, and along with some additional nerfs [expletive deleted], they did add one really useful item:

Reduced 'Per Hit' endurance cost on Whirlwind, Repel and Repulsion Field.

     One of the big nerfs in I-5 was to Burn.  Essentially the recharge time was increased, the damages reduced, and the enemy AI was improved so they would run out of burn patches.  While the first two could be overcome the latter made burn essentially useless since the enemy never stayed in the patch long enough to get hurt.  I played around with respecs but could never find a build that worked.

     With the last round of changes though, I have found that the endurance cost of whirlwind is now very manageable.  I tried a test respec, and basically made sure to add whirlwind, hasten, stamina, and burn.  I can then run into a mob, fire of whirlwind to throw them up in the air, lay a burn patch so that when they land and try to get up they are standing in a burn patch, then repeat.  while not as uber-killing as the original burn, it is a heck of a lot of fun, and does breath some life back into burn.

  While this tactic is not foolproof (some bosses, AV's, etc are immune to the whirlwind effect), it does provide some amusment for the Fire/Fire tanker, and adds an additional element of mob control to the tanker .

     Just some food for thought, let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Try using fear powers from the presence pool.  They're not "run away from me!!" fear powers, more they have a GOOD chance of immobilizing your targets.  The final power in the pool is a PBAoE fear.

I don't play a fire tanker (well ok I played one to lvl 11) so Ihaven't used burn, so I have a question: Does having a defender orcontroller lock down mobs inside a burn patch just not work? or are thefire tanks annoyed because the changes cut down on their soloability?I'im guessing since they can't keep the baddies in the patch with justtaunt anymore?)

Defenders and controllers can still lock down mobs in a burn patch, the annoying feature of this is that the fire tank can no longer do it alone (you are right, taunt is no longer enough to keep them in the patch).  This is not to imply that it only affects the soloability of tanks, it also impacts team makeup. A tank on a team with  little or no mob control would have the same problem as a solo tank.

Has anyone tried having the fire tank draw them all into a corner, havea fire troller lay down a bonfire patch to keep them in the corner, andthen use burn, or do I just not know what I'm talking about?

You don't have any mob control? taunt took a hit at the nerf bat too?

Taunt was nerfed. Taunt will only work on 5 foes at a time and I thinkthe duration time may have been shortened and the recharge lengthened, though dont' quote me on those last two since I'm saying this off thetop of my head. I don't bother to use it anymore unless there's anextreme situation; invinc works better for me.

Taunt did take some hits (see Ana's post above), but you can still do some initial crowd control using taunt, punch-vokes, blazing aura, etc.   The problem is though the moment you lay down burn, all the baddies run outside the burn patch and scatter regardless of how much you had taunted them.  When burn runs out, they all come back in.  So unless you have some way to keep them in the patch, it is just wasted endurance and little more.

ohhhh ok. *nod* that seems to go along with a couple things they'redoing. The first being a general balancing act so that one of anythingdoesn't completely take care of everything like it used to. So a secondtank isn't superfluous (and yes, they kinda were. so to some extent wasa second 'troller, but anyway)

Gotcha. So they probably did the same thing to the White Dwarf provokethen yes? when I was trying to herd those fir bolg to try and getjack/eochi to spawn I didn't think I was hitting all of them every timeand I wasnt seeing a lot of "miss". or maybe I just stink at taunting^_^;

EN: I wanna see this burn toss. it sounds hilarious

To clarify the nerf on taunt...

Taunt now only hits 5 mobs in a single click.

If I'm not mistaken (but please don't quote me) provoke still hits max of 16.  I think the reasoning behind this one being one of two things... Single hand usage during taunt vs. dual handed provoke AND the fact that taunt was never meant to be an AoE based aggro.  It used to be single target so the AoE range should be less (by way of that logic)
