Carbonite not dead to new bliz policy
PowerSurge1, Mar 31, 09 12:19 PM.

Straight from WowInsider.com we have a great article about a guild beloved mod, and one that is slowly becoming a staple to all levelers out there.

Carbonite going free, continuing development

Mar 30th, 2009
The guys behind Carbonite have finally responded to Blizzard's new addon policy, and probably not in the way you might have guessed: they're continuing development, and they're making the addon free. Carbonite was rumored to be the addon that started all of this trouble: they had a partial version up for free download, and were charging for the full version of the addon, which apparently Blizzard didn't appreciate. But rather than shutting down the addon completely, they've decided to go free for everyone, and they're continuing development -- version 3.00 is supposed to be out next week.

It's worth noting that they still have a number of donate buttons on their download page, which Blizzard is supposedly fine with -- all Blizzard wanted was the donate buttons out of the game itself. And of course, if you find this addon (or any other) helpful, you should definitely support the people who make it.

Reaction on the addon's forums is grateful as expected -- lots of people figured that this addon would be shutting down for good, so many are glad to see it will be continuing development. And one developer does say that Carbonite will be removing any obfuscation from their code, as per the new policy, so it's possible that other addon developers will be able to more easily hook into their code and use their techniques. Of course, whether the addon will still be financially worth it for the devs remains to be seen but for now, they're going along with the new policy and widening their audience at the same time.

Forum Flush
PowerSurge1, Mar 19, 09 1:51 PM.

I flushed just about everything, old raid boss strats, just old topics people discussed. Anyways, I will be merging some of the forum areas together, Like making one Raid section for forum, and same with classes, don't need everything as seperated as it is at this point.

Uldar is coming
PowerSurge1, Mar 15, 09 4:07 PM.

Patch 3.1 is near. If you haven't noticed your background downloader has been going nuts all weekend. Other websites say this is a just a pre download, for maps and images that won't change when the patch goes live, so this means, a couple more weeks of tweaking items, bosses, and class mechanics. Are you ready?  Here is links from WowInsider.com to get you started on everything you were wondering that is changing.

The Lich King's casual decree: No Geek Left Behind?

The Lich King's casual decree: No geek left behind?

Most MMORPG subscribers fall into one of two camps: casual and hardcore. A big reason why World of Warcraft has experienced such monumental success is that it has constantly delivered a rich adventure experience for both player-types. Heck, even Jimmy Fallon is playing WoW these days. This design balancing act is extremely tricky and while many MMORPGs attempt it, very few succeed. According to an editorial piece at The Escapist, Blizzard has tipped the scales in favor of the casual crowd with its latest expansion (Wrath of the Lich King) and it may have produced unintended consequences for both casual and hardcore gamers alike.

Sean "Gamers with Jobs" Sands, a self-described casual gamer, claims that he and 10 million or so other casual gamers have achieved what competing MMORPGs have so far been unable to; they ruined World of Warcraft. He believes that Blizzard has adopted a "No Geek Left Behind" policy with WotLK, making WoW so easy that it has diminished any real sense of risk, reward, or adventure. The casuals are left without any sense of awe inspired by the unattainable and the hardcores will burn through the content so quickly Blizzard may find it difficult to keep up with them.

One the way T8 and Ulduar
Scrogdor, Jan 27, 09 6:53 AM.

Patch 3.0.8 is behind us and the next one deployed on PTRs should be the content patch introducing Ulduar and Tier 8 sets (along with a few other things

  • All races are available for each class, even if they can't pick this class in game. It didn't take a lot more time to do it for all of them and I figured it could be interesting to see how it looks.
  • Only Death Knight, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mages, and Warlock sets are available. Don't bother asking for the others they're just not in the game files
  • THE PICTURES ARE CLICKABLE FOR A BIGGER VIEW.

    Death Knight

    Hunter

    Mage

    Priest
