I moved the uniform discusion in a new thread. NG should be more than the cosutmes so we can focus on what we actualy want to do here.
And on that topic: In Champions you aren't just some guy with superpowers. You are clearly a superhero, you get called that from the very beginning. So this time around I would say if we have an academy it trains mutant superheroes. I pretty much asumed that in the beginning of COH too but people tended to make alts that just happened to have powers and didn't actualy want to fight. Which is a bit shitty since that's the game.

I think it's just that CO is far less subtle and morally-ambiguous than CoH(CoH has groups that might be evil/good at the same time...CO seems to just smack you in the face with Defender iz good Guy, everyone else iz bad)

I had some ideas for NG, involving mutants in the CO universe (Let me know if these can work and if I should fix anything).

-Ultimate Weapon (Working title): Using gathered superpowers, the M-Gene would consist of altered Mutant and Human DNA, to create the ultimate weapon if the Champions turned evil.

-Giant lab explosion: Something similar to a lab accident/ Big Bang from Static Shock.

-Mutant Gene or M-Gene (Working title): Something that all humans have that can be unlocked due to the lab accident, or another trigger of some kind. May even be created due to the botched creation of the Ultimate Weapon.

-New classification system: Something to show how powerful a mutant is; maybe Ranks or naming convention.

-Nemeses: People who were invovled with the M-Gene and the Weapon, could be mutants, lab experiments, normal humans in powered armor suits, etc.

- My First Nemesis Idea: A lead scientist turned Chimera, who attempted to create a super-mutant serum using the M-Gene, in case the Defender or the other Champions turned evil, now crazed multi animal mutant.

-Definition of Mutant (in my opinion for this): Can be natural mutation (Puberty/X-Men style) or scientific augmentation of DNA (Involving scientific trggering of the M-Gene)

-What NG stands for: Next Gen might be a group that can teach mutants how to be Champions, or even a group of new heroes that get together after finding out about the M-Gene. (Maybe Grim ending up in the CO universe could have done something)

-First character:Ferris was a normal college student who volunteered to be a lab assistant, only to be caught in an explosion with a chemical in the air causing severe mutations in those affected (M-Gene), he now can shift into a giant metallic mutant form, called Ironflesh (A side of Ferris' anger)(If this works for a character let me know)

It seems to me that, at the very least, there would copied heroes in an alternate reality. It also makes sense that if people wanted, their characters could escape to the Champions universe via Portal Corps...

I would normaly agree with the refugee idea but considering that no matter what you do your character will have completly different powers and look completly different I don't see it working.
If they change with the world they are also still there but at least have a reason for it. We know how Portal Corps work.
The places on the other side look like Paragon. You look like you do in Paragon. Your powers work like in Paragon. That is not what is going to happen here. The difference between the two games is as big as switching from a real time series to animé.This
is not just Paragon Ending. The Rikti will go, Praetoria will go.
If I had to explain it I would say the timeline of a whole cluster of dimensions, every thing that is even remotely connected vanishes or changes.

Well, to make a suggestion from the bleachers, you could do something similar to what the X-men did in their past.  Way back when, in the very late 80s/early 90s, the X-men were "dead" and living in Australia.  At one point, in a combo of prophecy and manipulations, the X-men enter a mystical artifact called the Siege Perilous.  Those that entered were given a "rebirth" of sorts.  Their lives changed and they lived as mostly different people.  The most pronounced was Psylocke who went from British-armor-wearing-telepath to Ninja-killer-Asian-hottie (though horribly retconned years later).  Even her powers were tweaked into something new but based on the same core.

There could be a CoH version of the Siege Perilous for Next-Gen and the CO universe is the results of entering into the crystal.  It gives the opportunity to revamp your character and not be bound by what you were in CoX.  Think of it as the Psylocke effect!

I was gonna do a mix of all of these. Eli is probably going to 'merge' with the Champions version of herself(So she'll have most of her memories of CoH, but also be less/more powerful depending on how things end up in CO(and probably say th 'plants talk weird' because they speak a different 'language' than the ones in CoH:P). Patchwork will be exactly the same since blasters seem to play pretty similar actually(and probably come to Grim if grim isn't a CoH-shifted alt and a new Grim)....A few of them will be brand new, redone versions. I haven't figured it out completely yet.

However! I do have a working Sunflower Sword on CO now, though i need to get to elvel 10 so i can buy that set that has weapons that grow out of your hand which is kewl...(one thing I've found I haaate is that you can't cause effect animations unless there's an enemy target...so no pulling a sword out and brandishing it randomly:( )

Like Eli, a combination of all these are a good idea with character explanation of being within the CO universe. Planning on having Morgana go through a process of her memories being transfered into her alt version within CO. Combining elements of Morgana and Kassandra's personality into one person without the overbearing baddness of Kas.

@Davpa: That is almost exactly what I was thinking about. Everyone hit by the reality dysfunction (which is essentialy a reboot of time) is moved into the new timeline. SOme will change a little, some lots, some vanish (all have massive art style changes because. . uhm different artist for the new series!). Essentialy Next Gen is not moving to Champions. Our actions turn Paragon into Millenium. This is massively arrogant but exactly the sort of story we have told from the start. It's not more of line than claiming that the whole CoX univese was created by the founding of Next Gen, which is what we did at the founding.
Our reality rewrites itself into Champions.

It's a little too much for me, especially given that the Champs universe has physics that operate much differently than the CoH universe. It's easier to buy the time travel thing. Less easy to buy a completely new multiverse thing. I dunno, I think we can come up with something that doesn't involve invading the lore and other SG's RP with a baseball bat and a flamethrower just to make NG fit.

Maybe we can have it as an alternate dimension, where certain characters may or may not have met in CO than they did in CoH.
Characters may be slightly different, and the universe in Champs is a whole new ball game. If we can implement Next Gen in Champions Online, we would need some way to make Next Gen work out, I would be alright with rerolling Axe as someone different, Sergio may be similar to his CoH counterpart. I would say that we could work on how to reinvent Next Gen, feel free to review my previous post if you want to implement some of those possible ideas...

Don't get me wrong I'd never expect anyone else to take "our" stuff as their story. For me different SGs are different books and they can all tell their own story. By the same account I never expected anyone in COH to buy that NG had changed time at the colosal scale we claimed. That's just if the story is told from our eyes. And that is something everyone does all the time, by inventing new power sources for their alts that aren't in the lore, being some sort of demon except the offical ones or let's take Grim as an example being a human/elder god hybrid.
Just as I wouldn't expect anyone else to feel like another character's background needs to affect their own bubble of the universe the same goes for whole SGs.
I mean I never asumed we live in the world of darkness (TM) no matter how many SGs on Virtue claimed we do.
As for the lore of Champions itself... boy I don't think there's anything left I can do to that mess.

Okay. I have downloaded, installed, and patched Champions Online.

I have created a toon... son of a gun, Torchflame was available!

I have finished the introductory arc.

And I am rather confused. I always hate the learning curve of a new game. So, um, Torch in out there, sort of... no idea if I stick with him or not as of yet, no idea if I stick with CO yet or not. If there's a way to connect to those already there, someone send me a PM... or tell... or whatever they call it.
