I'll put my two cents in here.  To my thinking, the primary should still be mutants and mutations.  Next Gen was made to protect mutants and educate the world about mutants, and, most importantly, stop an apocalyptic war between humanity and mutants.  Tech was a big part of that.  Perhaps, in this new world, magic could be a part also.  I'd argue though, that mutations should still be first, and if there's tech or magic as part of that, then we should use it. 

RP-wise: Our world is gone, and the rules in this new world may well be very different from what we are used to.  Any advantage that will help us protect mutants, and educate mutants and humanity at large, should get a long look.  Ultimately, the new leaders will chart a course for the SG, by providing the example and direction.  We are newcomers, so we must adapt.  That adaption must be on terms that make it clear what we stand for.

   I think the mutant theme was part of the key to who we were but the other part was a back story; we need a back story to provide everyone with a workable storyline and to solidify the group. Falke and I worked on alot of story stuff before the CoH group was even established and it was something that people could sink their teeth into. Were they not interested in the back story of our characters, they at least had other characters who's personalities were established and they could plan their interactions around.
    The other big draw I think was the amount of fan fiction we initially kicked out due to alot of the details. The Next Gen Tower, the battles inside and outside, the internal strife between Galaxayan and Dayrunner and obviously the RP.
   I am by no means suggesting the focus be on us but whatever the leaders do, they have to have a description of this new organization, the leaders and their enemies and while not all of them have to be precise, the basics should be; why we exist, how we interact with the world of C.O. and how the group is expected to act. Obviously you can't have this done in an hour but it should be a focus for completion within the next few weeks. Falke is an expert at this as I originally thought he was half crazed for trying to start Next Gen in the first place...

Keeping to the mutant only'ish ideals is a good idea as the group was original about mutants and the troubles of dealing with threats against them from outside and within. Why couldn't there be tech involved, there could be a device that would amp up someone's powers for a period of time or a nemesis of the group has threatened the city with a device that would bring normal citizens under their control. 

Perhaps the idea of that the group was involved somehow with the destruction of Detroit and would have to be on their guard as Dayrunner suggested in one of the ideas.

Didn't we use to vote on storylines back in the day? Couldn't we do that for a backstory also? Just maybe have a meeting and run down some ideas and then take the top 3 and put it to a vote?

I like options 1 and 2 myself!
