I'll put my two cents in here.  To my thinking, the primary should still be mutants and mutations.  Next Gen was made to protect mutants and educate the world about mutants, and, most importantly, stop an apocalyptic war between humanity and mutants.  Tech was a big part of that.  Perhaps, in this new world, magic could be a part also.  I'd argue though, that mutations should still be first, and if there's tech or magic as part of that, then we should use it.

RP-wise: Our world is gone, and the rules in this new world may well be very different from what we are used to.  Any advantage that will help us protect mutants, and educate mutants and humanity at large, should get a long look.  Ultimately, the new leaders will chart a course for the SG, by providing the example and direction.  We are newcomers, so we must adapt.  That adaption must be on terms that make it clear what we stand for.

I have not had time to research the whole of the CO history, but as I have claimed earlier, I played the pen, paper and dice version for years. There were plenty of groups that had themes like mutants, or technological based folks, as well as vile groups to oppose them. The CO world won't seem as overtly hostile to mutants, but there will always be close-minded folks who can't stand something or the other, so a safe place for mutant-kind is still needed.

I think the mutant theme was part of the key to who we were but the other part was a back story; we need a back story to provide everyone with a workable storyline and to solidify the group. Falke and I worked on alot of story stuff before the CoH group was even established and it was something that people could sink their teeth into. Were they not interested in the back story of our characters, they at least had other characters who's personalities were established and they could plan their interactions around.
The other big draw I think was the amount of fan fiction we initially kicked out due to alot of the details. The Next Gen Tower, the battles inside and outside, the internal strife between Galaxayan and Dayrunner and obviously the RP.
I am by no means suggesting the focus be on us but whatever the leaders do, they have to have a description of this new organization, the leaders and their enemies and while not all of them have to be precise, the basics should be; why we exist, how we interact with the world of C.O. and how the group is expected to act. Obviously you can't have this done in an hour but it should be a focus for completion within the next few weeks. Falke is an expert at this as I originally thought he was half crazed for trying to start Next Gen in the first place...
You weren't Falke... well, your crazy but not in a bad way... more like a fox.
Just my two cents...

Suggestions for a backstory on the organization:

*An organization built to capture and contain mutants with the truly secret ulterior motive of saving them and adding them to the organization as agents to find more mutants; shares certain similarities to the old X-Factor series when the O.G. X-men were pretending to be hi-tech heroes and "capturing" mutants, secretly training them and shifting them to their own team.

*An organization believed to be terrorists somehow involved with the destruction of Detroit but actually striving to find the proof they need to prove their innocents; the proof could be held by Dr. Destroyer himself. It would add a layer of urgency and that hunted quality that can be fun in RP and fiction.

*What about an organization dedicated to the full understanding of the mutation? This group would be like the Green Peace of mutants just inside legal with their activities and rarely stepping over.

Just a few ideas... and as a note, completely restricting everyone to mutants only might be a pain for some, so perhaps a small segment of the SG could be sort of like "free agents" or "consultants" with certain specialties; if you look at the various possible locations(Atlantis, Lemuria, Europe, the Qularr, etc.) there could be a variety of possible reasons that the groups above would have such dealings with nonmutants.
   Again, just two more cents...

Keeping to the mutant only'ish ideals is a good idea as the group was original about mutants and the troubles of dealing with threats against them from outside and within. Why couldn't there be tech involved, there could be a device that would amp up someone's powers for a period of time or a nemesis of the group has threatened the city with a device that would bring normal citizens under their control.

Perhaps the idea of that the group was involved somehow with the destruction of Detroit and would have to be on their guard as Dayrunner suggested in one of the ideas.

Thanks man. In the end it was two things that made it work I think. It was a good basic setup and we got really lucky with the officers. People like Grim and Wirra kept it going all this time.
Still I'm a bit in a limbo right now. I'm not sure how to handle this transfer at all. I don't compromise well. I could take the ideas in this thing, bundle them into one vision and go "okay this is what we do" and let Grim run with it but that's not exactly democracy. I really don't know what to do or even what my role is any more. See the Shadow Cabinet for that.

Didn't we use to vote on storylines back in the day? Couldn't we do that for a backstory also? Just maybe have a meeting and run down some ideas and then take the top 3 and put it to a vote?

T-Bird is right. Suggestin time. I’d say we put up a vote with 3 to 5 options.

Here’s what I’d throw in:

Exiles: The survivors of COH. More of a mutant gang than an organization since they no longer have the insane amounts of money or future tech NG had in Paragon.

Builders: A few people in the Champions Universe such as Grim Ichor remember a second, different life in another world. They try to rebuild the NG they had there but lacking the super science and money they are having a tough time, doing patchwork solutions using magic there science fails and general developing into something different.

Mirrors: Possibly the same persons than above but they found a source of resources and tech and thus vastly rebuilding NG as it was with some changes to adapt to the new world (less dark, no assassin squad for example). They get these resources from a mysterious source only some people in the leadership know? Dun dun dun. Future plot points.

I favor extremes so I like the first and third option here but the second is what Grim wanted and while I’d like the world to be that way ideas don’t become invalid if I don’t like them

I see merit in all three ideas, and ideas that come to mind that I think that would be fun to play out. Honestly, without the level of activity to merit a vote, I will just be happy to be able to get to play along and tell stories with you guys.
