City of Heroes lives in Paragon Chat!

Goodbye my friends: Next Gen has officialy closed down

K4r4i, Oct 31, 13 2:21 PM.

A year ago the home of our guild/supergroup Next Gen was taken away when NCSoft decided to close down City of Heroes. With Champions as the only available alternative we moved over there. Due to the vastly different look and theme of the game we tried adjusting the group to both accommodate old characters and new ones. Yet despite our efforts it simply did not work out. With no tools to create our own content like we used to have and absolutely no indication of Cryptic planning to implement such ever we were limited to what the game had to offer. And it just isn't much. With too small team size, level gated content and basic mechanics that turned off over half of our members right from the start we simply never found a way to make it work.

For a year now we tried to keep going. Grim and Summer held out to the last week after week they tried to make our Wednesday event running, usually just with Hidebehind and me around. On good days we had one or two more. Even Grim's last valiant effort to get a story going that could let us use what tools Champions had didn't work out. So last night, with the four of us, as usual we decided that keeping this group going under the current conditions is doing it a disservice. Overlaying good memories with failure after failure should not be the legacy of the group so many of us worked so hard. As of now the Next Gen supergroup has been disbanded in Champions Online. The guildportal site will be reset to a City of Heroes group because Paragon City is our real home. From now on the fate of Next Gen will be tied to that. We fully support the Phoenix Project and their City of Titans that attempts to create a new home for the heroes of Paragon. The chance is not exactly great but if City of Titans launches Next Gen will rise again with it. If it fails we will go out with our City like we should have from the start. These forums will stay open to keep in touch and for those still visiting Champions the Next Gen global channel is still open and available. Grim, Summer and I can still be found there, trying a new concept that is less ambitious and more lighthearted. You can find the site for that behind this link.

There's no way for me to properly express how sad this is for us. I've personally seen Next Gen grow from nothing but an idea to one of the most active concept RP groups on Virtue and over the years have worked with so many amazing people and learned so much. We never let the group go, and Grim most of all tried tirelessly to keep it going but what we're doing now is not truly closing it but admitting it is over. There are way too many of you out there I should thank for the amazing things we did, Dayrunner who had the original idea, Crash, Goth, War, Eli, Mundaine, Wirra, Grim, Summer, Disco, Shival, Klinge, Flame and so many more. You guys were my friends when I had nothing else to live for and I can only hope you can take some happy memories out of what we did because as with all things that is all we have left now. Perhaps we will meet again if the Titans really recreate a city but even then it will likely be only a few of us. However things end, I thank you all for our time together. Fly free heroes.

Look what I found!

Of all the things I didn't expect to one into: Goth Gal, founding member of Next Gen and member from so long ago that even Commander Dayrunner came after her has returned to us. Welcome home!

Flag Speed: Free travel power unlock for the week around the 4th of july

K4r4i, Jul 4, 13 3:24 PM.
Go to the guy with the silly collar beside Defender in Ren Cen and take his missions. Run the Red Winter alert three times and unlock this shiny travel power account wide. While you're at it don't forget to pick up the normal Red Winter mission from Lt. Patil. As these alerts also give Smash level XP boosts the whole little adventrue should absolutely be worth it. If you have trouble finishing with random teams just speak up and you'll get help with the facekicking and energy in the gonads shooting.

A plea for help: Stand with Summer

K4r4i, Jul 1, 13 8:26 PM.
UPDATE: About an hour after we started spreading the word about this on social site the issue was resolved and Summer is back with full access. It may be a coincidence or the result of the noise, we don't know and don't care as long as we got our friend back.

Alright folks this is it. This is me trying to channel the awesome power of the internet for once. Its not a big thing and its not really for me. It also won't take a lot of effort thankfully. In a nutshell this is what's going on:

My City of heroes SG Next Gen was sucker punched as hard as it gets by the closure of that game obviously. We migrated to Champions, the only other superhero MMO out there really. Now Champions just isn't very good. I don't want to rant about the game right now, it isn't the point. Suffice to say that if it had received half the updates STO (same engine, same company) had it would look a lot better right now. Between the move and Champions just not providing us the tools or content we need to keep people interested we haven't fared very well. We've seen almost all our allied SGs die a slow death through attrition and we've bled almost our complete player base. Really there's only four regular players left standing but somehow we managed to hold out ground, still hoping the game might get some development and keeping the SG going in case people want to come back. But now Cryptic went a step farther and actively tried to take us out, by banning one of us. This was simply the last straw, both for us as we no longer have the balance we needed and no one really plays any more and for me because I'm just so tired of being stepped on. This is how it went down:

My buddy @SummerEvening was talking to me in our global chat channel. He told me about some toons he had just seen. I asked him where. He tried to answer my question with "Just some people I saw at the event." But the message didn't appear. Appearantly a Cryptic chat bot had identified it as offensive and eaten it. Summer received a system message about this. Now like most people I know he didn't have system messages active in his tab (as those will really spam you) and it was not A GM level message that will appear in your tab no matter what. So he tried to send it again. Strike two, the bot automatically banned him out of all chats in all three Cryptic games. Again. Summer was banned for answeringmy question by sainy g "Just some people I saw at the event." in our private SG global channel. How this could be taken as spam I don't know and don't care about. This thing needs to be shut off, we already don#t talk in Zone or public anymore because of madness like this but now they invade these channels too? We can moderate those ourselves thank you very much Cryptic.

Summer has sent a ticket to resolve the issue but has now been banned for over a week with no result. I know that this is a terribly overentitled first world problem and usually we just take these things but I'm done. We've been walked over for a year now, I've seen everything we loved and worked for die slowly but they don't need to rub it in by kicking us in the face while we're down. Plus there's the simple fact that Summer paid for this game and none of us are that blessed with money. They don't seem to have a hotline. The tickets haven't worked. Waiting hasn't helped. So here's my plea: If you know @SummerEvening from COH or Champions, or if you've been a member or ally of Next Gen in the past or even if you simply know me under one of my names (K4r4i in Chumps/Falke in COH/AngryPanda on da blogs) and know I wouldn't make shit like this up: Please drop Cryptic a line. If you play Champions write a ticket and post on their Facebook site. If you don't just post on their Facebook site, these seem to at least get a reaction as they make them look back. Write what you like but mention Summer's global name or just copy+paste the following so you can be done with this in 3 seconds. This may not be the most important crisis in the universe but it is important to us and it will just cost you 3 seconds and we just don't know what to do anymore.

ticket/message: Please unban @SummerEvening who was banned by one of your chatbots for no valid reason. Saying "Just some people I saw at the event" in his SGs private channel is NOT spam!
