Hi Mottie

I couldn't find anything obviously related to this, sorry if there is already something on the site about it!

Is it possible to embed a google docs spreadsheet into a GP website? and if so, how?

We're not really sure yet if we want it as a seperate page or just in a forum post - but it would probably be better if it is actually possible to have it working as it should within a forum post (so instead of posting a link for members to click, they can see the updated spreadsheet right there and then).

Thanks

Try using this code which basically uses the google doc viewer in an iframe
<iframe src="http://docs.google.com/gview?url=http://samplepdf.com/sample.pdf&embedded=true" style="width:718px; height:700px;" frameborder="0"></iframe>
  • The orange and green part of the URL shouldn't change.
  • The red part of the URL should point to your document, it's a PDF in this case; but I believe it will work with other doc types.
  • The style in blue will adjust the size of the iframe you're embedding.

Hi Lakshmii!

Well, iframes aren't allowed in a forum post, so the only place you can put them is in a Free Form Text/HTML widget, and maybe inside of a welcome widget (but I haven't tested this yet)

Cool, thanks

Just tried it now and not sure if im doing something wrong... but the box is just showing up with the code displaying in it, instead of showing the doc itself.

Ive put it at the bottom of the calendar page for now. Will work out where the best place to display it will be when it works

Hi Lakshmii!

It looks like it's missing the left bracket "<" and the right one is the bracket code "&gt;" so maybe it was entered in design mode instead of HTML mode?

Hi again

Now that it seems to be working ok (when i first got it to work, the google spreadsheet was down, so couldnt test it out properly), the iframe is displaying the code for the spreadsheet and not the spreadsheet itself lol.... is there any way around this? I have cleared the iframe code from the content box now cos i dont want the code for the spreadsheet openly accessible to the whole guild

Doh, I'm sorry... I save you the method to embed a PDF, not a spreadsheet shocked

With a spreadsheet, you need to get your custom URL from Google Docs after you publish the spreadsheet... here are the more specific instructions.

Once you get that URL, just use an "Embedded Page" widget.

haha, awesome

I dont personally have much experience with google docs - so didnt realise they offered the info there themselves, so thanks a million for pointing it out to me

It works and looks great

Thanks again
