There are a few users who have very wide forum avatar images. is there a way to force these to be, for example, 200px wide at most?

Forum Avatar Size

Hi Greboleus!!

Actually it's built into the Forum options... it's kind of out of the way:
  • Control Panel > Site Pages > Manage Pages > Forum Page > Edit Content of Forum Content Box > across the top you'll see Display Options.

  • There is a check box there to Force Thumbnail size. You can enter the width and height there.

  • Save and you should be set
And ummm you could also use CSS  shocked

i have an avatar related problem and i hope im posting in the right place here...

avatars on our guildportal site automatically get a sort of mirror image beneath them, increasing their size by quite a bit, screwing up our forum layout... ive been looking all over the place to see if this can be switched off (hey, if i wanted my avatar changed i would change it before uploading) but i can only find the options to change the size alltogether... other guildportal sites (like this one) dont seem to have it so i must be overlooking the setting somewhere... can you tell me where to find this?

doh >< figured it out, just happens with avatars uploaded to GP, hosting them elsewhere solves it...

I've tried fiddling, but is there any way to have the avatar as a maximum possible size, and not stretch the other measurement to fit? Some of my guys have fairly small avatar's which I'd like to not affect, some have wider ones - and I'd just like to be able to have an auto-resize to a height and/or width that I could specify. Is this in any way possible?

Hi Avvie!

You can accomplish this with CSS. Just add the following into your custom footer HTML or if you are using a custom CSS (Control Panel > Custom HTML & Script > Custom CSS), then just add the middle line to that.

Adjust the width of your image by changing the value in red.
<style type="text/css">
.MessageAuthorInfoCell1 img { max-width: 110px; }
</style>

Mental note to self, subscribe to topics so I know when they have a reply.
Thanks Mottie, very much appreciated. I shall go give that a whirl

Edit: Ah no luck yet. I am a dullard when to comes to these things, but I have tried pasting it under Custom HTML & Script>Footer Area
and also Site Tools>Page Footer as HTML. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Ava

Heya, the method you suggested is now working just fine. I left it set up, thinking I'd come back to it later and the next time I checked it was working out perfectly. Many thanks
