Guild Activity Feed

GuildPortal admin site link to the original post

Special thanks to Angeljibrille for finding Axho's WoW Guild Feeds site and working so diligently on the XSL code to make it work on a GuildPortal site! I made some slight modifications to the code to make it more generic and work with the GuildPortal themes.

Setup
  1. Get your Guild Feed URL

    • Go to Axho's WoW Guild Feeds site.
    • Click on "Guild Activity"
    • Under "Generate Your Guild Activity Feed", enter your realm name and guild name
    • Select your server location, then enter the limit (number of latest feeds to show).
    • Select "Output as:" XML then click [ Generate my Feed URL ]
    • Under the button you just clicked you should see something like this:

      SUCCESS! Your URL for this feed is: http://wowfeeds.wipeitau.com/GuildActivity.php?location=US&rn=Realm&gn=My%20Guild&output=XML&callback=?

      The portions I highlighted in red should match the information you typed in for your guild. Copy this URL.

  2. Add the widget

    • Go to your GuildPortal website and click the Control Panel.
    • Go to Pages & Content (Widgets) then select the page to add your widget.
    • At the top, click the [ Add Widget ] button.
    • In the "Search Widgets:" box in the upper right, type in "xsl" then press enter
    • Under "XML/XSL Transformation" click on the "Add to Site" link
    • Now, ideally this widget should go "In the middle of the page"
    • Make sure it will be added to the correct page (under "On which page?")
    • Then type in the widget name... something like "Guild Activity"
    • Click [ Save New Widget ]
    • Now click [ Yes ] to modify the widget settings

  3. Widget settings

    • On the XML Source tab, click "Remote File" next to XML Source.
    • In the XML File URL: paste in the URL you copied from step 1 above.
    • Click on the XSL Source tab, then click "Remote File" next to the XSL Source
    • In the XSL File URL copy then paste in the link below:

      http://www.axiomfiles.com/Files/258012/wow-activity.xsl

      Now click on the [ Test Transform ] button to see if it works!
    • If you see the guild activity data pop up it should be working! Click on [ Save Changes ] then reload the page where you added the widget.
    • If you get an error, go back to step 1 and make sure the guild information was entered correctly and the URL was copied correctly. If you are still having problems, feel free to message me with that information so I can help  :)
Customizing

Add any of the CSS you choose to your custom CSS area (Control Panel > Custom HTML & Script > Custom CSS >  CSS Additions to Standard tab)

  • Guild Level Title: To change the size or color of the guild level, add and modify this css.

    h1.guild-level { color: #ffffff; font-size: 120%; }

  • Widget Background: To change the background image/color.

    .guild-activity { background: #000 url(my-background-image.jpg) center top no-repeat; }

  • Row Colors: To change the grid row colors (away from the default that matches your site), use the css below.

    .guild-activity .NormGridRow { background: #000 url(my-background-image.jpg) center top no-repeat; }
    .guild-activity .AltGridRow  { background: #000 url(my-background-image.jpg) center top no-repeat; }
    .guild-activity .MoGridRow   { background: #000 url(my-background-image.jpg) center top no-repeat; }

  • Hide Column: To hide any of the columns, add "display: none" inside the appropriate curly brackets below.

    .char-name { }     /* character name */
    .activity-icon { } /* activity icon */
    .activity-name { } /* activity name */
    .activity-type { } /* activity type (item or achievement) */
    .activity-time { } /* activity date/time */

Hi CHamberlaincj!

I just added this widget to my test page and it appears to be working or me. What part isn't working for you?

Oh and please, if you do figure out the problem let me know if there is any way to improve my instructions to prevent someone else from having the same problem

It looks like the wowfeed site is gone. Is there any other way to do this?

Thanks.
