This is great, thanks for posting Mottie.

It got me wondering about something I'd like for my kin's site...
Can the above splash screen contain a state bar (or textbox as in your post?) or similar functionality?
Instead of the 'Enter' link or timed redirect I'd like ppl to see the splash screen, then based on logged in status have different links presented (and/or different timed redirect targets).

case 1:  logged in AND a member of the kin sees splash and a link/redirect to our private Home page (I think this will happen only if the person has clicked 'Save' upon login and/or the session has not timed out or been otherwise terminated), or perhaps if possible, to cut-down on navigating, just have the page auto redirect upon loading to our private Home page, saving these member having to see the splash screen everytime they load the site. (this person would most likely see the standard 'logged-in' version of the state bar if it is state bar code being used to add all of this functionality)

case 2:  NOT logged in AND a member of the kin sees splash page  and the login box which would upon logging-in, become Case 1 allowing them to click 'enter' to navigate to kin's private Home page (or auto redirect as above if possible)

case 3:  logged in and NOT a member would see the splash screen, the standard (logged in) state box and a link/redirect to our public home page (unless it is hidden this option would present the "Join" option if the standard state bar code was being used to generate the login option)

case 4: NOT logged in and NOT a member would see the splash screen and standard (not logged in) state box plus the link from Case 3.

Not sure if this is way too complicated, but I thought I'd float the idea past you since I think it would be handy functionality but I just can't get it to work with any of the cobbled-together code snippets I've tried.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank in advance!

Hi Denlow!

Thanks for the ideas, but would they be necessary if you just tell the members of your kin to bookmark the private home page instead of the splash page once they have made it past the splash page? Or you could just send them the private home page link directly.

If that isn't sufficient, then I can look into working on something for you.

Hey Mottie just wanted to let you know you're awesome and have taught me a lot since I'm such a noob at this.  The problem I am having is that the welcome splash screen only shows when you enter through the guildportal.com website and search for our kin.  Problem 2 is sometimes it shows when you hit the 1st link and sometimes only when you hit the 2nd link.  Problem #3 is that many of our kinnies have tested it out and don't see the welcome screen at all.  I'm not quite sure how to get past this so it shows for everyone.  Any help from you is greatly appreciated.

Hi Nykeawyn!

I just looked at your site and I only see one page. So I think there are two issues here and I think both are covered in the first post instructions under "Making your Welcome screen Public":
  • So, the first issue is that the welcome/splash page isn't viewable by the public - I'm just guessing since I can't see it
  • The second is, and I'm just guessing here, that the welcome/splash page isn't the first one in the list of pages. This is where you change the "Page Display Order" and make it the first/top page.
I hope that fixes it for you!

You are totally AWESOME!!!!  It was 4 AM when I was working on this and I thought I hit save when I made the screen public...I guess my brain and fingers didn't connect.  Thanks a bunch.  I've really been able to do a lot with our site because of you.  Be ready for another post about adding icons to our event calendar.

Thanks a Bunch

The welcome screen on our website hasn't been working for about a month. I noticed that the welcome screen example is also not working on the Test-Site2 as well and was looking for possible solutions. Do I need to change the code or is there something that was changed that isn't allowing for this splash screen any longer?

I hid the page for now since it's not working, but it can be found at http://www.kittycatdeathsquad.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=350248&TabID=3086368 for reference.

Thank you.

Hi Kmichaels!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention... so all you need to do to update your code, is change this line from this:
document.getElementById('ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_PageContainer').innerHTML = a;
to this:
document.getElementById('PageContainer').innerHTML = a;
I've also updated the original post.

I've updated the Welcome Page code. It should now work properly (in IE) if you include embedded video or audio.
