Changing the "Join Guild" text & arrows

GuildPortal admin site link to original post

You can add this Javascript to your custom javascript area (Control Panel > Custom HTML & Script > Custom JS/JQuery > Document Ready Event) to change the "join" text and arrows.

Code
 var hideJoinLink = false;
 var leftArrow = 'http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/Mottie1/testsite/icons/leftarrow.gif';
 var rightArrow = 'http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/Mottie1/testsite/icons/rightarrow.gif';
 var joinTitle = 'Come to the Dark Side';

 // Don't change anything below
 // ***************************

 var tm = $('.WfTopMenu'),
  sm = $('.gpWidget-sitenav a[href*=NewUser]');
 if (hideJoinLink) {
  tm.find('.welcomeBullet:eq(0)').add('a[href*=NewUser]').hide();
  sm.parent().hide();
 } else if (tm.length) {
  tm.find(".welcomeBullet:lt(2)").hide();
  tm.find('a[href*=NewUser] b')
   .html('<img src="' + leftArrow + '"> ' + joinTitle + ' <img src="' + rightArrow + '">');
 } else {
  sm.parent().find('img').hide();
  sm.html('<img src="' + leftArrow + '"> ' + joinTitle + ' <img src="' + rightArrow + '">');
 }
Customizing
  • Replace the URL in orange to change the arrows and change the text in purple to what you want the message to say.
  • Change "hideJoinLink" to true if you want to hide the join this guild link completely.
Edit (3/12/2009): Changed the code to work with the new GuildPortal CSS classes (no more StateBar class).
Edit (4/28/2010): Updated the code to work with the new layout and also added an option to hide the join link.
Edit (8/7/2010): Fixed code because it wasn't working in IE.
Edit (11/15/2010): Fixed problem with hiding the join link.
Edit (12/7/2012): Updated to make the script work again.

The URL is the text Mottie has in orange in the original post.  Each URL is the location of the individual left and right images that he is using to replace the default red arrows.

If you want to accomplish this effect, you will need to have the images you want to use hosted at a website (Mottie uses Photobucket.com).  Once your images are uploaded there, you can get the URLs for them to use for this code.

So, just copy exactly what Mottie posted, replace his orange text with your URLs, then paste the whole thing into the header or footer of your site.

Have you ever used an image hosting site before?  I use www.photobucket.com because it's free, gives me TONS of storage, and it's pretty easy.

Go there, and set up an account.  Then go and find yourself some good images- very small ones for this particular script.  (You can make your own images in your Paint program, use Google images to search for what you want, or even search photobucket.)  Once you have the image(s) you want to use, save them to a file on your computer.  Log into your photobucket account and find the "Upload" button.  Upload the images from your PC onto photobucket.  Once you do this, photobucket will generate several codes for you to use to add the images to different applications.  Look below the image you just added to photobucket, there are 4 boxes each with a line of text.  The one you want in this case is the "Direct Link".   Right click and copy the Direct Link (which is the same thing as a URL).

Now paste this direct link over the orange text in Mottie's script.
You can also change the text that he typed in green to reflect your own guild if you want.

Once you've added your own URL's and  changed the message, you're done.  Paste it all in your header or footer.

*Also, Mottie has used two different images, one pointing right and one poining left.  If you're image doesn't actually point to anything, you could use the same one for each side, to simplify things.

Great feature Mottie.

However when I used this code I realize that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When I refresh the page here.

It's supposed to read Click the join link to apply for membership to the web site Come to the Studio Side Click the join link to apply for membership to the web site :

But sometimes it reverts back to Click the join link to apply for membership to the web site Join Holowood Galactic Studios Click the join link to apply for membership to the web site :

Hi Guppy Queen,

It looks like the code isn't compatible with the code for the shout box... very odd. I've noticed that when I test stuff, I have to turn off the shout box code 99% of the time. I'll have to look at this when I get some time.

For the most part the code does work on my site. I'm using this:

Hehe thanks Guppy!

It seems that the code was having problems with the old tooltip script and the shout box. But with the new tooltips we have now, this should no longer be an issue.
