This is a note about posting a link to an item on wowhead.com. Here is the link to the topic in the wowhead forums. You can now post a link here and see a tool tip of the item pop up! I tried also adding Thottbot's tooltips, but it was incompatible with wowhead

Here are some examples:

Thunderfury
Tormented Demonsoul Robes
Band of Dominance
Illidari Rod of Discipline

To make the link the same as the item color, just add class="q3" to the link. The "q3" refers to an item of "rare" quality, so add the appropriate quality color to the link.

q0 = Poor
q1 = Common
q2 = Uncommon
q3 = Rare
q4 = Epic
q5 = Legendary
q6 = Artifact

Unfortunately, Guildportal's link editor won't show the "q" classes, so you'll have to do it manually. Just click on the < > in the bottom left corner of the editor and add the class information. Here is the html code from the four links above:

<a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19019" class="q5">Thunderfury</a>

<a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34936" class="q4">Tormented Demonsoul Robes</a>

<a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28247" class="q3">Band of Dominance</a>

<a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32872" class="q2">Illidari Rod of Discipline</a>

If you want to add this to your site:

Banner or Footer Area

<script src="http://www.wowhead.com/widgets/power.js"></script>

Custom StyleSheet

** This is no longer required as wowhead adds this part of the stylesheet with the script **
.q0, .q0 a { color: #9d9d9d !important }
.q1, .q1 a { color: #ffffff !important }
.q2, .q2 a { color: #1eff00 !important }
.q3, .q3 a { color: #0070dd !important }
.q4, .q4 a { color: #a335ee !important }
.q5, .q5 a { color: #ff8000 !important }
.q6, .q6 a { color: #e5cc80 !important }
.q7, .q7 a { color: #ff0000 !important }
.q8, .q8 a { color: #ffff98 !important }

Customizing the tooltip

I helped someone add a custom background image to their wowhead tooltips (original post). This CSS also moves the icon inside the window, see below.

Paste this code into your Custom StyleSheet or into a Free Form Text/HTML box on the page you have wowhead links. Change the border and background color (in red) and modify the background image URL (in orange) to fit your website.
div.wowhead-tooltip p { position:absolute; top:5px; left:85%; }
div.wowhead-tooltip { border: #ffcc00 1px solid; background: #000000 url(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm228/jason3223/whitewings-1.gif) no-repeat; }
div.wowhead-tooltip table td, div.wowhead-tooltip table th { background:transparent; }
Edit (08/29/2008): Added instructions on how to modify a wowhead tooltip style with CSS.

my GP website is a free one and in my "banner area" it says:-

"Note!

Only subscriber guilds are able to modify the guild banner HTML display properties! "

Will this affect the script to make this link thing work?

because I'm having a little trouble getting it to display as a scrollover item, instead it is displayed as the script which I pasted in the first place.

any idea where I went wrong?

cheers

My test-site is a free site, so I'm not using the Banner Area at all... what I did was added the wowhead script into my "Key" box below my forums box. The Key box is a Free Form Text/HTML box I made.

Also, when you paste the wowhead script into the editor, make sure you are in HTML mode () or you can right click inside the box and "Paste As Html".

Add the following to your CSS to get the colors working for the HyperLink Manager of GuildPortal. The color choices are at the very bottem of the CSS Class menu.

.wowItemTitleQ1 { color: #ffffff; }
.wowItemTitleQ2 { color: #1eff00; }
.wowItemTitleQ3 { color: #0070dd; }
.wowItemTitleQ4 { color: #a335ee; }
.wowItemTitleQ5 { color: #ff8000; }
.wowItemTitleQ6 { color: #e5cc80; }
.wowItemTitleQ7 { color: #e5cc80; }
.wowItemTitleQ8 { color: #ffff98; }

Extell,

I can't get your tip to work.  They don't show in the drop down within the class section of the Hyperlink.

But going into the code and using class="q4" works fine.

I added a forum module which will make it easier for users that don't know HTML to add links to wowhead. Check it out here.

Edit (7/12/2009): Forum modules no longer work
