Is it a bad thing that I'm thinking about asking for the 8th off from work (let's be honest the servers will probably be down most of the day on the 7th)?

I don't think servers will be down the 7th.  They were pretty decent for BC and Wrath.  Intermittent glitches, but overall, I played a lot those days.

Speaking of BoA ...

The cost of heirlooms in 4.0.1 has been intentionally increased above what they currently cost to match the gain of points players will see at level 85. It's recommended that if you want to buy heirlooms you do so now before 4.0.1 is released, or wait until after purchasing Cataclysm, leveling to 85, and running that content for points.

Yeah I heard about that.  I also heard that the heirloom gear will continue scaling (stat/bonus wise) all the way to level 85, but the experience gain will stop at 80.  So they might actually be useful again.  I have just about all the heirloom gear I'm interested in, will probably snag the spell power staff, and if I can swing it, one of the trinkets.  But seeming as everyone seems to think 4.0.1 is going to hit TOMORROW, I'll probably only manage to get one of those.
