Just a FYI that we are going through a KP revaluation. The last time we did this was after SoM came out. There were a few changes then. We'll be making some adjustment to allign raid and instance KP amounts. The things that are taken into consideration for values are: time investment, difficulty, reward, and desire to do it.

We'll post details once integrated.

We expect the KP evaluation to be completed this week. We have received some questions about it so I wanted to put out some clarifications.

First, the KP table will not be affected nor will any events posted prior to the changes. I expect the changes to be in effect next Monday
Second, there are not a lot of radical changes. Most of the changes increase KP that can be earned, but there is some instances where KP will be downgraded and in some cases where KP will no longer be earned.
Third, I wanted to clarify/remind folks what KP (Kin Points) are about.

1) It s is not similar to other MMO systems where you earn points for merely participating. There is a clear difference. This is why some events have KP and others do not.
2) The main purpose is to reward/compensate folks for helping other kin mates accomplish things in the game. Since LoTRO has a loot system where not everyone walks away with the same loot, KP is used in these instances to balance the investment.
3) For an event to qualify for KP it must in general at least be an event where someone is being assisted by players who are not earning the same or similar benefit.
4) There are a number of other considerations used to set a value of an event. They are: Length of the event, Difficulty of the event, Loot disparity in the event, and Number of players it generally takes to complete the event.
Examples of things we reward KP on and why:
a) Raids: High difficulty, high number of players, and there is loot that not everyone can earn
b) Radiance: Medallions do not barter for compensating loot outside of Radiance once it is earned
c) World Instance: helping someone complete quests you don't need or are grey to you and in these cases they will mean more time and difficulty
d) Deeds: Time investment when you have already completed it
e) Crafting Hall: Use of resources past or present to be in a position to help someone who needs something they cannot provide themselves
f) Leveling: Time spent to put your character and your skills at playing the character in a place to assist other people
g) Training Hall: Acquiring skills, traits, gear, and refinement that makes everyone around you more successful and provides the Kin with esteem
h) Membership: Providing new members compensation for the gifts that they bring

Other examples exist as well. I just want folks to have a good understanding that it's not a point system merely to give points. It exists to off set what Turbine's systems are. The KP system makes you re-earn and re-invest. It is bias toward those who put in more time and assistance to other players. That is its Arche.

If turbine creates game mechanics that make it so that everyone's investment in an event is equally compensated, the KP system will find fewer needs. I think a member recently said something to this tune. All the easier for me. It would be nice to see at some point just as it would be nice to see unlimited members in a raid and do away with formation.

Hi Team,

Here are the changes. I am posting most of them here as there are various changes and I will be formatting the changes on the KP Page, therefore, it will take me a little bit of time to get them all updated on that page. The effective date of these changes is Thursday October 21, 2010. Any events completed after today, will use the changes below (if applicable).

Please let me know if you have questions. This thread is just a log of changes or FAQ.

Definitions

·         Best Attempt: Earned on any raid or when group comes to the last boss and wipes at least 3 times. The present exception is Sammath Gul where 3 attempts on Gorothul triggers a best attempt

·         Exploits: No Change

·         Full Clear: No Change

·         Challenge Mode Fail: Earned when challenge mode is failed

·         Challenge Mode: Earned when at least one player's character completed challenge mode

·         Dual Boxing: A player can only earn KP for one account that they own

·         KP Adjustments: No Change

·         KP Baseline: No Change

·         Classic Instances: Any instance that is moved to classic status. This means that skirmish marks and barter tokens drop from this instance (currently Great Barrows, Annuminas, and Library and School of Tham Mirdain)

·         Declared Loot: If an item on the loot list is declared, then the player's baseline is adjusted -2KP

·         Won Loot: If an item on the loot list is won, then that player earns zero KP for the encounter. The only exception is if a deed was completed or the player is eligible for Special Drop Bonus or Bonus KP..

CD and Uru

·         No changes at this time but anticipated for future

Class Quests

·         No Change

Crafting Guild

·         Providing Mats does not = Symbol

·         Stack = whatever that craft item stacks to. The only exception is food or morale/power pots, which is 25

·         Providing a symbol: +10KP

Discovery

·         Add Helegrod

·         Add BG Challenge Mode

·         Add Associate to the group as long as the kin is the one leading and discovering.

Epics:

·         No Change

General Questing

·         1KP per person per hour being assisted

Medals

·         No Change

Leveling

·         Add: New members also earn KP for the last tier each of their character hit prior to recruitment and are then eligible for any new tiers obtained going forward.

Virtue Deeds: Switch to Deed

·         1KP per deed per player that completes a deed while in an event

·         1KP per hour per player that is intentionally incrementing a deed

World Instances

·         GA: Ivar 1Kp BA, 2KP CMF, 3KP CM

The following changes are effective immediately.

Over the course of this week, we'll work to get them up on the KP tables on the KP page. Please refer here for these presently.

As is the case, we'll make adjustments as they are needed. Your feedback is welcome as well.

  1. "Radiance" references will be removed
  2. 2.5.5 will be removed from KP values (this is now a skirm that gives skirm marks)
  3. Vol 1 and Vol 2: will lose all KP (since there is inspired greatness) unless it is HoM, WW or 2.6.8. If you ever run any of these without IG, then just give your helper 1 KP per hour (normal quest KP).
  4. New Clusters: KP earned if you have both Tier 2 armour sets OR you are on lock for that instance
  5. Raid: 5KP for anyone that has both Tier 2 per armour tracker as bonus KP (this is the normal bonus we give in raids to those who have a full set and others do not)
  6. Symbols of Celebrimbor: Removed as special loot drop (still on loot lists, just not a special drop worth 10KP)
  7. Symbols of Eldar Days: Added as special loot drop
  8. Orange Loot: Added as special loot drop(this is in the raid)
  9. Added the 3 PvP pieces needed for new PvP armour set as Special loot drops (as long as you didn't get one in the same hour as the person you assisted)
  10. Raid/New Clusters: KP by T1, T2, and Challenge Mode
  11. Add Deeds back: 1KP per net deed you didn't complete (5 done in instance and you got 3 of the 5, you get 2KP) - Deeds were removed awhile back (except for Virtue Deeds), but we have been honoring the requests still on this formula
  12. Raid Values: Discovery value only if full kin
  13. Raid Values: Boss kills TBD by officers upon take down.
  14. New 3 mans - t1: 5, t2 8, CM 12 (Northcotton and Stoneheight)
  15. New 6 mans: t1: 10, t2 15, cm 20 (Temple and Fortress)
  16. Best Attempt rules:
  • 1kp for 3-player T1
  • 2kp for 3-player T2
  • 3kp for 3-player Challenge Mode
  • 3kp for 6-player T1
  • 5kp for 6-player T2
  • 6KP for 6-player Challenge Mode
  • 6kp for tier 1 raid
  • 9kp for tier 2 raid
  • 12kp for CM raid
DISCOVERY
  • The 4 new clusters will be opened for discovery KP, which we'll limit to T1, T2 and T2 CM. As a reminder, your group has to be full members only to be eligible.
  • We'll probably not do the raid for discovery KP

The loot list is up now for each cluster. We may add to it as we get more information from Turbine.

Please make sure you are declaring loot when you are running these instances.

Additionally, it looks like the 3-players instances don't have locks, you can run them daily.

Therefore, remember KP post should be posted if:
  • Someone is on locks, and the didn't win loot
  • Someone spent KP on loot (even if KP earned is zero for everyone)
  • Someone has all OD T2 Armour (main and alt) and others in group do not
  • It's a discover run - check the discover table on the KP page for values and which ones are open.

  1. Updated medal KP amounts
  2. Changed rule on Armour instances to match Raids on armour. This means that you don't have to have the armour set to earn KP in the instance. You will earn KP in the instance if someone declares loot, loot is won, or you qualify for best attempt. Bonus KP: Added this for small fellow and fellows (presently only applied to raids). This will mean that if you have an armour set and are in an instance where medallions for that armour set are earned by a player that does not have the set, then you earn bonus kp for each player still working on their set.
    • Small Fellow = 1KP
    • Fellow = 3KP
    • Raids (remain as is) = 5KP
Please make sure you declare loot and that you are submitted KP requests on events where it is declared or won.

Classic Instances remain unchanged due to skirm marks being allocated in those instances.

Hi Team,

A few things getting stream lined. In the next month or so, we will also be launching a KP calculator. It will help with submissions. For now, we are tweaking a few things. Additionally, I thought we had a special loot table up, but we instead had them buried in the KP definitions on the KP page. You will see a Special Loot link to the loot lists now for better clarity.

Here are the changes:

  1. Level KP - This is adjusted to start at level 60. Additionally, the KP amount equals your level. Tiers are 60, and 65. We will add 75 later. The net KP you earn will always be the level. If you submit at 60, then you get 60 KP, the 5kp more at 65 etc. If you apply at 65, then you get 65 at 65.
  2. Discovery Raid KP - we've been doing this and decided to officiate it. When we don't have a tier or challenge or boss down, then we have been using discovery on riads in terms of Best Attempt and triggering BA for every iteration of 3 solid attempts.  Normal BA for downed instances will still apply, which just means as long as you do 3, it is best attempt.
  3. Removed from Loot List - 1) Symbol of Celebrimbor - 2) First Ages ≤60s - There are two impacts to this. First, Base KP isn't triggered if they are won and nothing else is, Second, you won't lose your Base KP if you grab on on a run.
