The Convocation of the Free Peoples, a OOC guide

First of all, if you would like to see the Elvish and Dwarvish fonts laid out properly, please go here: http://www.thehutt.de/tolkien/fonts.html and download the Angerthas and Tengwar Sindarin fonts.

So! What’s this all about, I hear you ask? The Convocation is meant to be a reaffirmation and dedication ceremony to strengthen the bonds of friendship and loyalty amongst the Allies. It’s also of course a roleplaying event designed to let you the player not only play your character as a true representative of your kingdom and culture, but also to have some fun dressing up in a very formal setting. Lastly, it’s to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Legion of Gondor, and it doesn’t get more Gondorian than this. What’s involved?

  • The host will greet everyone firstly in the Hall of Fire so people can gather in their respective kingdom’s groups. The grouping of nationality is intentional, but you will be asked at a point in the ceremony to form up in your Kinship’s ranks.
  • The parties will then be asked to accompany the host to the East Porch in Rivendell (this is on the second floor of the Last Homely House, and has no furniture or NPC’s to be intrusive. I am working on trying to get some props placed for the event, but in the event this does not happen, there will be a simple unadorned stone altar at the far end of the room).
  • The host will then give a speech of welcome and explanation of what his intention is and will ask other people to give an oath appropriate to their people. One or more people are welcome to make oaths, though for clarity’s sake it might do well to appoint one representative for each group to speak on their behalf. Individual oaths are more than welcomed, however. Such an oath should involve your name, place of origin and then a short statement. Something in a four-line poem form is highly acceptable and very much in the spirit of Tolkien. I am very aware the individual oaths could count for many people, so please try and talk to your group or groups and work out if you want to speak individually or not.
  • Each Kinship involved will be invited to make an oath of friendship and loyalty to the common cause (which is of course, peace and freedom and the defeat of the Enemy). This way individuals are able to make their voices heard, as are the Kinships.
  • The hose will then make some closing remarks. Finally, if time permits, any minstrels will be invited to play songs of their choosing to mark the ceremony’s close and celebration of all things good.

That’s really about it! The sixth of August at about 8pm EST is the time I have laid down for this and this will of course be adjusted if people feel this day or time is not going to work or get the most amount of people. Please send me in-game mail or contact me through the Legion of Gondor’s website.

(Edit: The Tuesday the fourth is also under serious consideration, I'd appreciate any feedback if that date is more desirable.)

Iffen I may, the Oak N' Barrell in Addernotch is open the first thursday of every month, which is on August 6. Which would create something of a conflict with respect to the Bounders participating since this is the official Bounder bar.

Well done Tavarhin!!  Reading through those greetings and getting to the Hobbit salutation brought a smile the size of Buckland across my face.

Personally, I too hope that timing changes so the Bounders can give your event their full attention, our pub being new and that being only the 2nd night of it's  opening - many of us have not yet even been to it myself included.

Tues would be great as would the weekend I'd imagine.

Lyonardo, as the master scholar of cultures and traditions, it would be (as it should be) up to you to represent us in this. It is only fitting.

Well, you're in luck; due to some misinformation, I can now reschedule the event's date to the 25th of August at 8pm. That is closer to the actual date of the Legion's founding and also avoids any scheduling issues.

I consider that good news. That will give Lyonardo time to do the research and get us all properly prepared.
