Shadows of Resistance
Welcome
Welcome to Shadows of Resistance!

Howdy Folks and welcome to SOR.  The Mayor of Shadow Grounds is Othare, and the current guild leader is Atiov.  They are the bosses of SOR, and if you have any questions feel free to contact them with an email or a /tell.  They are real folks and will get back to you when they have a free moment in their grind.  At last count we had about 85 pre-nge folks in the guild, so be patient and ask for help in guildchat or with other SOR members that you see in the street.  SOR isn't your average guild.  We are here to help each other, see rule #4 below.

Raibos and Tamus are Co-Chairmen of the now-defunct city council.  They are sub-leaders in the leadership echelon of SOR, appointed by Zipstir (now Atiov) and Othare to keep things running smoothly.  If you have questions or complaints or good words regarding SOR, rest assured that Atiov and Othare will have those comments forwarded to them.  Tamus and Raibos are here to help folks and to help keep the little details under control... Frankly, all the leaders can find themselves in /Tell Hell, so bear with us. The co-chair jobs and the city council/ squad leader jobs are all intended to help delegate some of the recruiting and guild details so that we can all enjoy our games without being overloaded with questions from new players.

The Rules of SOR
1.)  You must be a rebel or a reb pilot to join SOR.  If you need faction points to become a rebel we can probably help you with them, or grind with you for an hour to two to get you the points you need.  Post-NGE note: we are also accepting neutral players in a trial basis.

2.)  You must have a house inside city limits and declare it your residence.  You may only have one house since space is tight in the city.  The house is free, so if you need one come see Othare, Tamus, Raibos, Atiov, or an SOR member who can put you in contact with one of our many alts.

3.)  You must vote for Othare for Mayor each week.  If you forget, don't sweat it, but it's his guild, he founded the city, and only he will ever be a legitimate mayoral candidate.

4.)  You must be self-sacrificing in advice, actions, and your spare goods in order to help your fellow SOR members improve their own game.  More simply, be cool for no other reason than to see SOR be cool.  Give of yourself  'till it hurts folks, and all SORs will know that both you and SOR are cool.  We are a community, a home, not a guild or a flophouse.  If you can't help a SOR then just say no.  I do everyday.  We'll try to get that person in touch with another SOR or with a reliable contact outside of SOR.

5.)  SOR enjoys a reputation of being easy to get along with.  We don't besmirch our tag by arguing with goons in the streets.  If a toon wants to diss you, or our guild, get their name, and tag, and tell any SOR bosses you see around.  Don't do anything to make SOR look weak, but don't rise to the occasion.  SOR is a peacetime guild, and our reputation is built on being helpful, kind, and mature.  We DON'T guildwar, we have no guild enemies, and our politicians are adept at solving problems.

6.)  You must sign up at this webpage.  Even if you never participate again, we would like to see you sign up here.  This is a new rule, but it's a good development, we (the leadership) think.  If for no other reason, so that we know you have read the rules.

Council Member Job Description

537293623_Inactive, May 20, 06 6:26 AM.
THE FOLLOWING IS OLD INFORMATION THAT I HAD NO HEART TO ERASE.  WE WILL INTRODUCE A NEW ORGANIZATION SCHEME SOON (7-22-06)

The Council Member Job Description:
The council member/ squad leader boss is essentially my old job as recruiter for SOR.  I, Raibos, wrote the book on recruiting at SOR.  The rule of thumb is this:  don't sign up folks unless they are patient, not pushy.   Nice and not rude.  If they don't communicate well in IRC then don't sign them up.  If they ask you a question and then hit the ? mark until you answer them DON'T sign them up.  If they are pretentious, or if they act like they are doing our guild a favor by gracing us with their presence, then they aren't going to meld will with our established community.  We don't need new citizens so badly that we are going to suffer fools, or immature teenagers, or folks who think a guild is a place to prove their importance.  Newbies are welcome in SOR, we'll jumpstart your game with advice and materials, but again, if they aren't IRC savvy, or fast learners, then they are not going to get along well in SOR.

That said, once you have signed someone up, you are responsible for keeping them busy and feeling welcomed until such time as they are regularly using guildchat, taking part in social activities like the guild hunts, and until they understand rule #4 of SOR like a true community member.  You own that recruit until they either move to another squad or until they find themselves out of SOR and wandering Theed like some poor lost soul.  It has happened before.  The trick is not to sign them up in the first place.  If you have a problem with a guildie, you take it to the leadership, not to the SOR members.  Your complaints go up, not down.  And you meet and greet all new players who join up regardless of what squad they are in, and you push them into guildchat and SOR group hunts until we all get to know them.  I have every SOR member in my friends list, and I try to greet folks as I have the time-- and I welcome ALL new folks to SOR as I have time.  And yeah, that invites a lot of questions that I feel obliged to answer promptly to the point of having to drop my grind to take care of SORs and their business.  You will find your own style, and your squad may only have 1 or 2 new recruits in it at any given time because you can't handle more.  That's the J-O-B.  You are the community builders if you take the council job, you are passing on the SOR values to any player new or established who moves into our town.

And that's why I, Raibos, think that the council jobs will see a fair amount of rotation.  Personal glory aside, I have freaked out a couple of times to the bosses because the stress of trying to manage the guild was beyond a guy with ears as big as mine.  We have all privately complained to each other about having too much to do with SOR business to be able to take care of our own games.  Recruiting is a calling.  You have to be in the mood to take on a newbie or a new SOR recruit.  New player or old, they gotta know what it is to be SOR or they aren't SOR, and that can take a week or two.  Your duty as a recruiter is to help those folks be better players AND better SOR members.  Frankly that's the duty of all SORs (rule #4).  We all take our turn in helping recruits be better players, and that's why SOR is so incredibly cool.  .

Yay for Shadows of Resistance for continuing to have hunts for all its members! You guys always have a good time, even if you don't accomplish your intended goals. Just hanging out together is a good thing, and helping each other! Hurrah! I'm so glad our leaders and higher end people keep planning these things! We love you, man!
