Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to

I HATE the little popup that just appeared on all Guildportal sites on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Please shut it off immediately or allow me, as admin, to turn it off by default.
It's distracting.
Why bother to create a nice look to my site when this ugly little bar ruins it.
No one will use chat. It's not a needed feature. That's what we have the games for. We can chat IN the MMO's. If they DID want to chat, why would they do so in Purple Dragon, a chat room that has nothing to do with our guild or game?
Why is the bar showing people not in our Guild. Who cares? Guildportal has thousands of members.
Gee, is that font annoying? Kind of like the bar!
And, ugh! Why are we now being notified when anyone who is a member of Guildportal logs in?
This stinks.

I was actually glad to see it. Enjin has a very similar, albeit more pleasant looking bar, and after using chat there I wished we had one. Not everyone can chat in-game - we're multi MMO and are often all over the place.
However, it would be nice to have the option to hide - and CUSTOMIZE it, so that it fits our colour schemes etc - for those who aren't interested in using it.

I cannot stand this bar.
On a mobile window it is a cat and mouse game to get to the hyperlink underneath.
I try hard to keep the clutter on the site to a minimum and STILL features I do not want or ask are implemented such as this or the ability to mark up/down forum posts. I want control over the appearance of the site and if a feature is developed, there needs to be a way to remove it.
Our guild will never use this chat feature, this is what the game is for or Ventrillo.
I am looking for a way to disable this thing.

Val I can prove with a query to the database that an awful lot of people do use chat. Sometimes they do it from work, or from their tablet when away from their PC, or after they log out of the game for the night and are perusing the forums. That being said, yes, I should know better by now -- something as in-your-face as that bar should have an option to disable it, and I'll go ahead and put in that option with a hotfix tonight. It'll be on the opening page when you click the Profile link.
It's unfortunate, though, since more than just chat-related stuff will be offered down there eventually.
As for members not in your guild, it should be showing members from any guild you are a member of, except this site. I see you're a member of Mottie's site. Maybe I should put that in the query as a guild not to include in the polling, but since you're going to disable it, it's probably not necessary.
@Pinstripesc: Customization is definately in the plans. Just went with a neutral gray with black icons to get it out there.

The option to disable it is now there. Click Profile, it's the option to "Disable global guild bar." It's saved in a cookie, so it's unique per sub-domain.

Thank you for the quick response Aaron, but... My website is mine, I pay for it. Please give me, the admin, the ability to block this bar from my site. Your solution is to leave it up to the individual members but it's my site that is being "uglyfied".
At some point, I may want the bar back, IF and only if you give us enough customization options. Until then, I do not want it showing on my website.
Since I'm paying the bills, please sell the bar to me, not my non-paying site members. For me to include it, I need complete control over where on the screen it appears, how large or small it is, what it looks like and what features appear on it. I also don't like the way it is not guild-specific. Trust me when I say that the average member doesn't know Guildportal half as well as I do, so I want to limit their options. When they are on
my
site, I want
our
chat to be the only one available (not Purple Dragon).
I also want the people online to show only those in
my
guild, even if they are a member of other guilds. This has always been a problem with GuildPortal, BTW. Even though we have a custom subdomain, there is some confusion with members who belong to other guilds. For instance, when I check my admin panel to see when someone last logged in, in an effort to see when they visited
our
site, the date is often incorrect. What I see is the date they last logged into their account,
anywhere
on GuildPortal.
Please understand that I love GuildPortal and have been a paying member for most of the last 8 years. I believe I can provide my members a good experience here. I'm not,
however
, bringing them here to be a part of some larger community. If they want to chat with another guild they are a member of, make them go to that site. If I check to see when they last logged in, I want to know when they logged into
our
site, not Mottie's (for example). If I want to see who's online, I want it to be members of the guild page I'm on, not some other guild I'm a member of.
So, please give back some control to me. I'm the paying customer here.

In regards to the popup "Blankityblank has signed in", it yanks me back up to the top of the page when it goes off and pulls your cursor to the beginning of the input box when in the middle of writing forum posts, which can be a bit of a hassle when you've got 5 people logging in mid paragraph.

From what I can tell looking at the coding of the little doodad at the bottom, you "should" already be able to CSS the thing to invisible if it really bothers you that much, however I find it hard to understand why you would care if the rest of your guild members see it. I think it being a personal option to turn on and off is great.
Personally, I'd like to see the opacity dropped to about 30% and have it bump up to 100% on hover.

You got it --
slotted
for next release. 30% is a bit low though, so I'll have to fiddle with it to see.
