Guildportal's Roster.  What an interesting topic as I was just thinking about this prior to coming here.

I have one issue with it, that I think can be solved and still keep intact each persons privacy to their own personal characters.

The only thing I want to be able to do is to click a little box next to a char that marks it as primary or non-primary.  So that alternate characters don't show up directly on the roster when you first look at it.

I realize that Aaron has implemented a way for us to "Block" characters from being on the roster.  The problem I ran into this is that it also appears to block them from showing up on the Tradeskills content, and I believe (but don't quote me, it was a while ago when I tried this) it also blocks a person from using that character to sign-up for Events on the Calendar.

I'm not interested in updating my members levels etc...  That's their deal.  With over 200 members there's no way I could keep up.  I just want to be able to clean up the roster view without changing how the rest of the content on the site receives it's data.

Just a way for me to mark characters as Primary or Non-Primary.  I don't see how that would breach a members privacy or cross the line into their territory so to speak.

I would not want the nightmare of handling my roster..not even a teenie bit of it..enough work in other areas binds my time.. but I asked my Angels just to see what they thought .. tee hee, novel concept, ask my constituents..did I spell that right? I'm a hero not a professor! *stern little girl look*

Some of my best RP leaning members do not wish to have their characters entered at all.  Apparently, there is a growing fear that Crey Operatives have infiltrated our ranks and are taking meticulous notes.  I myself have my roster-bio encrypted.

I love my RP members, nutty as squirrel turd  Oh wait..*inspects self*..oops, so am I apparently

On a serious note, people have their reasons for everything.  I just try and keep the center on task and not sweat the small stuff.

Well I would welcome the ability to administer it. While you may have 200 members, I'd guess that's not the "average."

For the most part, people take care of it. But the ability to take care of the situation when they don't is one that I would highly value.

Fingers of Fury!

I totlally understand your feeling! I recently upgraded my site to premier, and it (in my opinion) is looking pretty snazzy. I spent my hard earne money to ensure the SG members had a "home" for their heroes. In addition, I spend atleast an hour a day on it to make it look good and keep information for them updated. So this was how I got them to respond. NO ONE took me serious about updating their heroes in the guil d UNTIL I put a deadline on their membership if this was not done IMMEDIATELY! On May 25th I sent out emails to all SG members within the game (we have 68 now). At that time I had approximately 24 that had taken me serious and registered their heroes. Today is May 27th and I now have 42 registered members heheh. Could it be that I gave them a deadline of May 30th before I booted their heroes from the SG? Hmmmm....I wonder. Why do I believe they took me serious? Because I first built a group of SG members that came to depend upon each other. Who appreciated and looked forward to logging on to CoH and meeting up with their SG friends and teammates, and treated them as very valuable assets of the SG, and then appealed to them by letting them know that the ability to continue doing so in our enviroment was DONE if they could not follow one little request such as, register and update your hero.  Point in fact...if you take the time to come on, play, and level, why would you not take the time to showcase your achievements? They viewed this as an intelligent request as opposed to a threat.  26 members left and everybodys happy. Just a thought.

As I have posted before on the WoW forum here, the roster really does look a mess at present.  No one in their right mind is going to update every single honourable or dishonourable kill they get.  I have enough trouble as it is getting members to even update their character level.

The WowReader from Allakhazam was a wonderful idea, and most of us love it, but there's the odd few that just cannot be bothered, or see the programme as spyware and refuse to use it.

Ideally, I would like it completely customisable to the fact that I could choose exactly which columns were displayed on the roster.  That way I could get rid of all the PvP columns and simply display character name, level, and crafting skills perhaps.

Here's a link to our roster so you can see what I mean:

Further to my post yesterday, I think I have now found a solution, at least for us anyway.  A complete online guild roster that only ever needs uploading by one single person and we now have it embedded in our Guildportal roster page!  This is for World of Warcraft guilds only.

More information can be found here:  (character profiler, guild profiler)
