Yeah, that one won't work..

You have to choose the no encryption option for the donation button sothat it gives you the email link instead.  Then you put that in amember's only section in a freeform HTML as the link to whateverdonation button pic you want to use and voila!...

The one we have looks kinda like so...

<div align="center"><ahref="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&amp;business=emailname
%40home%2enet&amp;item_name=Guild%20Name&amp;item_number=77115&amp;
no_shipping=0&amp;no_note=1&amp;tax=0&amp;currency_code=USD&amp;charset
=UTF%2d8&amp;charset=UTF%2d8"><img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but21.gif"></a><br>
</div>

cept without the carriage returns...

I tried to do this as well. Can not remember if it was encripted or not but I am thinking I followed the direction and did not do that. When I pasted the code into the freeform HTML and then pulled up the page it was on the button was not there, just the coding.

do I need to do the email format or the button one?

Any suggesiton?

This may be a stupid question, but do we need a bank-account set up to us to be accept donations?

No, but I linked my personal account to it when I wanted to donate into the PayPal account.

All funds donated into PayPal can then be used for GP registration, image hosting services, etc.

This also "confirms" the PayPal account for anyone donating, but it's not required to work as it should.

do I need to do it as a hyperlink then? or what?
I have seen those with the buttons on it and I have tried the suggestions here but mine did not look like those you guys showed.

That's exactly what you have to do.. whether you hyperlink it off a picture or a piece of text makes no difference.

Paypal actually has instructions on their website for doing just that, adding a donations button to your page.

The code is generated to link to your account directly.

Not exactly sure where one can do this, but this is what I did for our supergroup websire and it worked fine.

I actually had different levels of donations each with its own button for a while.

I just followed Aaron's original instructions and it worked fine.

Here's how you do it:

1. Login to paypal under the “merchant account“ you set up to acceptpayments.  I'm not sure if this can be done without one...

2. Go to the “Merchant Tools“ tab.

3. Click “Buy Now Buttons,“ tucked away in the first paragraph that has the title “Use PayPal on your website!“

4.Enter the details in the form.  For item name/service, use somethinglike “Site Donation,“ and give any number for the item id/number.  Havewhatever price you like, select the currency...

5. Select the “Buy Now“ button or provide one of your own.

6.Under Security Settings, click “No“ to encrypt the payment button. Normally, it'd be a very bad idea to do this, but since you'reaccepting donations from your members and not actually charging for aservice, it shouldn't be a big deal.

7. Click “Create Button Now“ to complete the form.

8.Two text boxes with code in them will appear.  The code you want tograb is the code in the “Link for Emails“ text box.  It containseverything necessary to send the user to PayPal to donate to ya. Here's a sample of what these links look like (please don't donate, lol-- this is just a sample!):
