Becoming Adept!
i am a very graphics oriented webmaster, and i really want to be able to add graphics and borders and things to EVERY aspect of my site. change how the top bar looks, edit custom forum styles and such, but i need direct control over each type of content to do that. would you consider letting each type of content be customizable in the same way as the left/center/right content boxes and banner are? please?

Hmm.  First of all... DIE Paladin scum! 

Now that that's out of the way, I think you'll find that most of the things you ask are already possible.  I've been able to add my own borders, custom tabs, custom buttons, and a bunch of other stuff, and I'm pretty much retarded when it comes to coding stuff.  What I've found is that you can customize pretty much everything here, if you know how to do that it.  When I started, I didn't know how, but with the help of the folks here in the admin community, and a lot of reading, I was able to learn alot.

I would start by, if you haven't already, familiarizing yourself with the ins and outs of the control panel.  From there you can update almost everything.  If you want to go crazy, you can even do things like custom CSS, for which I myself am not brave enough to try.

For that, I'd pretty much have to develop some kind of mark-up for every type of content that has its own elements.  At least, to provide the ability to control every bit of the appearance.

Something that might work as a compromise would be for me to provide more customizability, just shy of absolute control.  So for example, if you want things like the “Submit News” and “News Archives” links (you mentioned them before) to allow images you've created, I can certainly do that.  All I need is a list of the elements you'd like that for, and I'll get to work on it.

Do you mean like have images on new items? (like this site www.illusionofshadows.com/) or what?

You can do the images in news items like they have on that page by adding an IMG to the news item, and putting the ALIGN=”right” attribute in the IMG element.

Aaron, wouldi be able to send peices of code to you and you could replace parts of the code for my site with the ones i offer? i know you would have to check them for malicious coding, but i would REALLY REALLY appreciate if you could do something like that for me. ok, and thank you for your offer. here is a list of things i want to be able to do:-Add custom images to the login/settings area at the top of the page, as well as use images for that section. (simply making it a table with a certain background, left/right cap images, and custom link images would be sweet.-Change the image for the admin control. i think its like a little pencil or something now. i want to edit that.-Custom content, similar to the freeform text/HTML content option, but one that is not included in a content box. like say instead of a content box to appear in an area, you could make an image that appears in that space.-Add/Change all links in the forums, as well as cusomize the tabular formatting for the forums.um thats all i can think of right now... and thank you very much for taking to time to answer our questions and helping us out!*EDIT* and if you are reading this, my site is the Kamiak Knights, and you added it to the spotlight guilds as i was working on it... so a new version is up from when you did it last time. and you spelled our name wrong... "kamia knights"... hehe, if you could fix that it would be great, Thanks!!

As far as replacing code, if it's something that'll improve the overall look for everyone, without breaking anything layout-wise, I'm all for it.   I'll take a look at your list, too.

Fixed up your guild name in the spotlight, by the way.  Amazing what you've done with the tools on that site!

Images in news posts like that, would be nice, but to add them manually like you suggest is a bit cumbersome.I would like to see categories added to the news items, and an optional picture associated with that category, that would appear on either the left or right side of the article. Sorting news into categories is also useful for guilds who play lots of games, as maybe people could configure it to only show what they are interested in, and of course searching by category would be nice. Just like to keep you busy ;)ps. theres a bug in your code, if you disable emoticons, then the quote box doesnt show up :D
