The site is a bit more muted than many of those on this server...combined with the guild colors of grey and purple, you could say I had to do more with less.

The Archangels on Kay

At any rate, the site's been up for a month or so, but I'm just about to dive in some more and give it some more work. I was hoping you guys could help lend a non-designer's eye!

I like it! Then again I have only nice things to say about a fomer alliance member

I love the simplicity of your banner -- It's really neat, and the simplicity of your color scheme. It's a very calming site. I like it better than your old site.

I agree, the simplistic style is refreshing. The white just happens to go with the guild name well and the banner image capitalizes on that. Well done!

Nice work on the tab images and left-top corner box images!

The only suggestion I have is that you might want to experiment (currently it looks great!) with a softer white kinda tiled background.. something that is very very white but  lends itself to a softer atmosphere. Hard to explain, but think of it as lighting up a room with a clear lightbulb and then again with a frosted white bulb.. you get two different types of atmopshere - How to accomplish this i'm not sure, but thought I'd raise the concept.

Great site in a direction that I havn't seen taking before

Thanks for the kind words. I'll give the background a try. So are you saying a light/white background with a bit of texture? Similiar to the gaussian-cloud effect behind the box titles, but in a reverse? Whatcha Think?

The areas I'm really looking to spruce up is: (1) the coloring...give it a touch more eye-draw-in without getting garish; and (2) more interactive content. On the second front, the keep XSL from Hibernian Guard (BTW-Thanks again Cicalla) has helped wonders give me a flavor of where I need to go, but want to expand it a bit in the coming months.

As a side question, how would I go about putting a listing 'recent posts to the forum' in a small side box? I've seen it peppered about on some other GP sites, but can't figure it out for the life of me.

Nice and yes I agree Vlarian .. there is a world of difference between clear and frosted bulb.

I noticed couple of the tab active images didnt work for me...But the onesthat  did looked good..

That would be curious .. key word being experiment with subtility (if thats even a word hehe). Just solid white works well, great even, so wouldn't want to risk it with “to much” of something...keeping it solid white wouldn't be a step backwords at any means!

Okay! I kicked up an instance of Photoshop and started fooling around with noise generators. I've created two patterns that I think work well, and have applied them to the site. The first is a 1% noise bespeckeled grey and white background that I applied to the content cells...adds a nice feel of texture. The second used the first as a seed, converting the speckles to purple blobs and then mellowing the whole thing out. I think the end result is definitely something a bit more polished than I started with...and I also fixed the active button settings that I had missed the first time around! Thanks all!!
