1st: I'm putting an image into my welcome box on my home page and I need to know how to make the image's back-ground transparrent. It's a shield "150x400" (or something close to that) and I want the box around it to not show up. How do I do that? Also, I'm using "Paint.net" for all my visual editing. (Yeah, I know it's crappy but i'm too cheap to buy photoshop. =P) if that helps.

2nd: How do I make the welcome box say the name of the user viewing it? "Welcome, Dahtay!" I see that alot and I would like to know how to do it. =)

Thank you beforehand for any assistance, it's well appreciated! ^^

1) Without seeing the image, I am assuming you are referring to a white or black background surround the image. The only way I know is to use Photoshop, copy the image to a new window, select the color (without biting into the image itself), delete the background, save as a PNG. (I usually save it as a PSD first in case I want to redo something I missed.) I know that flies in the face of not using Photoshop, so perhaps someone else knows another way.

I have a really nice little program I use for cropping and converting files into gif/png (with transparency) named IrfanView... You can register it, but I don't think there are any limitations on the free version.

Thanks so much! I'm going to go try my luck with IrfanView now. If I have any issues I'll be sure to come back here and let you know. =D Thanks again!
