Becoming Adept!

Hello everyone! Me again!

So! My site is comming along really well. Like I said I'm a photoshop guy, so I've made everything custom, I'm really happy with the feel!

However. Pretty and functional are diffrent, and right now I have some questions.

Here is a link for reference:

Isn't it Orky!?! Yay!

Anyways, first. I want to make the batter go all the way to the top of the page, so maybe I can make some kind of a cool box like these people did:

In that I would have to figure out how to edit/remove the borders of up there, and make it transparent and show less and all of that, I havn't searched for that like I have for this, so I'll get to that when I need to.

So, now the other thing that I want to make happen is moving the page tabs higher up overlapping the banner so I can get some more room. Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

See what I mean how things are on top of the banner? That really would help everything flow for me.

I have searched for a billion pages back to try and find some of this stuff (and I have found some things! Thanks for the css pagetab distances!) but the search function only seems to give me a small number of results, only a thread or two sometimes. Anyway I can make my searching better?

Thanks again for all the help! Hopefully after I learn some of this stuff I can help pass it on.

*EDIT* Ok well. I realized I can just look at the view source from other websites and copy it into mine. I have been playing around with it all night and I think I figured out how to get the banner that go all the way up, and how to get the spacing I need for the tabs. I think the banner does something weird now with the spashscreen I tried to make, but I posted about it in the other thread. Thanks for the help! If anyone wants to know how to do it and can't grab it out of my view source let me know and I can give a walkthrough! (Blind leading the blind, lol!)

Actually, all these sites did was make the background image contain the areas. On the Old School site, the top bar (aka State Bar in the CSS) is part of the background as well as their tab bar section:

The Crit happens site puts their image and logo in the background.

I'd just follow their example for the easiest solution

Thanks a ton! This really is comming along good! I found I can learn alot by doing viewsorce on other peoples pages and plugging it into my CSS, seeing what is changed, playing with veriables, ect. I find somethings don't have any effect and lot's of people have them... like this for example:

#dhtmltooltip { position: absolute; width: 150px; border: solid 1px white; padding: 3px; background-color: black; color: white; visibility: hidden; z-index: 100; }

No idea what it does but people really like to have it in their CSS!

It really has been a blast learning all this! Thanks for all the help Mottie!

LOL you crack me up

The #dhtmltooltip is added by GuildPortal to style the tooltip that pops up when you hover over stuff in the state bar (top bar). You can change it as well, but not by adding the CSS into the Custom StyleSheet as GuildPortal automatically adds this CSS after your custom stylesheet.

Check out this thread on how CSS classes are assigned in GuildPortal. It may help you figure out what you want to change.

There is also a master thread where we're trying to put all the links together on how to modify your website
