Hey gang - is there anyone who has cracked how we can use the SWF content boxes in the Control panel?  There is an icon there for flash and when I click it, up comes a content box asking me to select a flash file - but how do I get my swf's into that?

I'm trying to have a swf play on my front page but no success - all I am getting is a white rectangle.  If I direct post the link it plays fine :/

firs you must have the flash hosted by another site. If you are trying to upload it directly to guild portal it wont work host it on photobucket or another pic / flash hosting site most are free to join but t;hey are limited on how much it will host for you. but for a small fee you cam get premium service and have unlimited hosing

Hi Eochain,

Have you tried just adding the code to embed the Swf?
<object width="300" height="400">
 <param name="movie" value="myflash.swf"></param>
 <embed src="myflash.swf" WMODE="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="300" height="400"></embed>
</object>
This is basically the same as the embed code from adding a youtube video. It's set up that everything is repeated in the object and embed tags.
  • Replace the text in red with the size of the flash file -  the height and width.
  • Replace the text in blue with the URL to your flash file.
You could also use the built in flash file javascript code, but it makes the flash clickable, directing you to the address you add.
writeFlashElement( flashWidth, flashHeight, URLtoSWF, Link )
  • flashWidth - sets the width of your flash file
  • flashHeight - sets the height of your flash file
  • URLtoSWF - URL of your flash file
  • Link - link to a site/page you want to navigate to when the flash file is clicked.

Nope - none of those worked Mottie.

From what I've tried to find out on the net - this whole SWF thing with browsers has been causing headaches! lol

The weird thing is that if I enter the http://us.share.geocities.com/hawk_of_erin/Eochain.swf directly into the browser it plays and it also displays on the page of the site, but I was trying to get it to show it anyway without my kin having to enter everyones direct link URL.

hmmm

Ok, I think the problem is with geocities possibly not allowing you to embed flash media... tried to set up an embed code on my test site and got a blank screen. When I replaced the URL with another SWF file, it worked fine.
