Hi! I'm one of the admins/designers for the following site:
http://sleepofsorrows.guildportal.com/
We (the designers) are trying to create an embedded page in order to display a pretty newsletter we are creating. However, we are running into the following issue: "no image linking" whenever we try to display images that we have uploaded to the site. What does this mean? We found that if you have a public picture from somewhere OUTSIDE of the GP site that it displays fine. That doesn't make any sense to me. Could someone please explain this?

I dont quiet follow what you are saying because you refer to "embeded page" which would suggest to me an HTML file, but then you talk about viewing pictures, both internally and externally.  Is it an HTML file you have uploaded to Guild portal, that contains your newsletter?  Or have you saved your newsletter as a jpg (for example) and only want to show the picture?  If it is the latter, I would suggest you use a freeform content box instead of an "embedded page" box

Hey!

All of the above are correct.
It is an embedded html file/page.
On that embedded html page/file, it calls images (<img src="">).
I uploaded the images that the html file calls, and I used full links (http://xxx) and partial links because they are on the same server (/blahblah.jpg). Neither would display because of the phrase "no image linking" or whatever. The only thing that worked as a work around was to store the picture on a different website and then do a full link from the embedded html file/page to that website.

Sorry, cant help anymore.  I assume there is a reason guildportal have done this as it seems to be some sort of "security" type feature rather than a coding issue.  But as you have gotten around it anyway with external links, I assume all is for the good.  There are loads of photo sites out there offering free hosting space

Well, I guess we can go with the work around, but I'd rather not. It doesn't make sense to me that if I pay for this website why I shouldn't be able to display pictures that I've uploaded to it. It doesn't make sense to me why I can display pictures on the portal side of the site, but not on the embedded side.

I just tried it and it worked for me. I used GP's file manager to upload a JPEG, then a freeform HTML content box to display it.Here's the HTML IMG element for the JPEG file that I used:<img src="http://www.axiomfiles.com/Files/16701/Ugeo-thumbnail.jpg">And let's see if it works in a forum message:Yup. Looks good here. Can you demonstrate one of the elements that is not working in a forum message for us to see?

Ancandune, I think he is saying its not the direct pictures he is having a problem with.

What he has is an HTML file (a news letter)  That has The pictures embeded in it.

So he is then trying to create "embeded page" content to display the HTML file.  When he does this, he gets an error with the pictures within the html file, but only if the pictures are hosted by guild portal, not if they are outside guild portal  (Hope I got that right)

Yes, Edwar, you got it right!
It's not in a freeform html box, it's an embedded page itself.
Anyone else have an idea of what the deal is?

If your pictures are hosted on GP in Axiom files, you can't remote link to them - i.e. you can only link to them from inside your own GP page itself. The only exception to this appears to be with forum signatures, which display regardless of which guild page you are in. I believe it was designed this way so that Axiom storage could only be used for site content storage, not for file storage that could be linked to anywhere else. The thing is, even though you've paid for the site to host your pictures on your guild site, you haven't paid to be able to upload them elsewhere. And an embedded page, even if it's on your guild site is linking to somewhere else in the middle.

So if you've created a page and embedded it as an external source, linking to those files, the pictures won't show because the page is not part of GP, it's just embedded into it, so they aren't direct links.

I suggest for external embedded files you host them somewhere like  photobucket, which allows direct linking, or host them yourself if you have some hosting space with your isp. I presume you are hosting the page itself somewhere, so perhaps you could upload the images there too and link to them from that source to solve your problem?
