I know the answer is probably no, but I figured I would ask anyways, just in case.  Is there any way to have the banner area of a site not reload anytime a different page/thread/etc within the site is visited.  I've recently added a non looped flash movie thing as a banner and would really love for it not to reload every time a new page is visited.

Unfortunately, the answer is no.

I experimented with this a while back and there is some advanced stuff you can do with the flash script that, in theory will do what you want based on varibles including cookies, date, time, etc.  But I was never able to make it work and hours of searching on the internet have yielded nothing.

I have same problem with it.  However, I am not sure about the .swf file part but similar to my a .jpg/.gif file for banner and background, etc.

There is a solution for me:

Bypass the reload is to host at another server than host at guildportal.com or axiomfiles.com.  My guess (that's a guess!) axiomfiles.com perfers reload thus to waste their bandwidth.

Try it to host your .swf on different server and see if it's working or not.  Let us know the result.

Well I'm not much of a Flash designer, but wondering if you know much about Flashvars? And, could that be used to play a movie? If so, perhaps... publish the movie with the play head in the stop position, then try a hack with the Flashvar (to play the movie) in the Welcome text area (which you'd only have on the home page).

Sadly, I have no knowledge of Flashvars.  I may have to spend some time figuring it out, though.  Thanks for the suggestion

Under styles and colors there is a "Banner Area" ... paste the code found in the linked text file in the lower box and enable it then click save.... You will need to replace the image "http://www.clemsontalk.com/gallery/files/9/0/6/Sow-shadedown.jpg" with whatever banner you would like to display in place of the flash, I would suggest screenshotting the final image of the flash movie cropping it and dropping it on your server.

Anyway this is cookie based and will load the flash once then the image the rest of the time. The cookie is set to expire daily so the first time you visit each day gets the flash banner.

Hope that helps
