Hello I have just taken over the design on my guild site for WoW. This is my first try at doing anything like this and have no idea where to start looking for some of the themes and graphics that make a site look really good. Do I have to write the codes for them or is there a place to find them? Please help me I am totaly learning as I go here.

Hello Fire Lilly - Well my first piece of advice for you is to say hello to Mottie Awesome person with a TON of information shared with us here @ Guild Portal. You can look at one of his test sites - read the how to... areas and this will get you started over-all. Here is the link: http://guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=258012&TabID=2197542

Guild portal is pretty easy to use over-all... You can design a whole page with no code design, although if you want some of the nice features or lay-outs you'll have to use some of (or program your own) Mottie's designs. You can do a lay-outs provided by Guild Portal, half and half (what I call it) thing, or full code (Custom CSS)

You have more freedom if you purchase (full member) site ...

Hope this helps ...

Svana,

Very nice webpage (IMO) - I like th color selections on it. Very easty to read and flows very well...Are you using Full custom CSS or using some of the 'template's GP provides? I haven't braved it out enough yet (or learned enough) to go Full custom CSS - I still use some of the provided tools from GP.

Korento,

Nice page over-all ... I would modify the yellow text although (if it were my site) - You could try from your banner image grabbing a sample (with an photo editing program) and once you have this, grab the RBG or HEX code and then modify font to match. Looks to be some very nice yellow, cream or sand colors in there that would look great on your site.

    Hope these help

Hello mates.

My first post here.

My front page has collasped it was 3 column's but the left column has gone to the bottom some how and been researching on how to fix it, but can't seem to fix it yet.  Any help with this would be great.  Also have a look at the site and let me know what you think.  Any suggestions are welcomed.  Thx Smiley.

Hi there Smily!

Some things that caught my eye.

The background image to the site should be removed as since the site isfluid and it is a solid image in the background you cant really see, ortell what it is, because of that it looks a bit sloppy.

Fix would be removing it or getting a tile-able background.

The image "/raid_anim2.gif" which is your into/welcome image to thesite is FAR to large of a file, pushing about 2MBs. Being that it isalso a .gif makes the quality of it terrible.

Fix would be to remove it, Get someone to create a Flash version, or to make a Very nice high quality .jpeg of it.

Odd image sizes. Most your images are more square then rectangular. This makes them feel out of place.

Fix would be to crop about 25% of the height if not more.

Site is fluid however the site setup is not. You have a very nice site, and nice images however it would look MUCH better as a fixed site, nota fluid. Since the site is fluid a lot of the images move around andmake other places empty. On a 1920 monitor there is a LOT of empty.

Fix would be to make the site a fixed aspect or create more dynamic images to match the fluid layout.

All the cells look like blobs stacked on blobs =(

Fix would be increase the cell spacing to 2 or 5px.

Top banner is a square. A small rule is to have the banner *headerimage* cover the content OR align left and use the rest of the rightfor nav or ads.

Fix would be create a banner to cover it all *1268px on yoursite* which will be far too large. You need to think about all users ofyour site. A lot of people still make sites for 1024x users *width* andnow a days its safe to even make sites for 1280x users *px* ....

So in a run down...

IF you go fixed create your content width to be around 980-1100px
A banner to match.
Images to match layout

IF you go/keep fluid Fit your banner accordingly and make it more dynamic
Try to use less images or use tables to allow images to be there own and text on the side next to it
Less TALL images and more WIDE images.

MUST do regardless of which you choice is to
get all images more rectangular
remove background image or if you go fixed you can keep that background image with editing to slice it up.
remove/change the welcome image. it is FAR to large of a load and also lower quality hurts site overall.
Change the banner to match the site, increase the width.
Increase the cell spacing as they seem squished.

Hope I helped a bit!.

that is alot of info to look at.

I'm still learning about how all this works.

A mate of mine did most of the work on the site, but he is now gone, and now I'm trying to pick it up.  And just having a hard time with all of it to be honest.  But what other way im I going to learn right.

Well thanks for the info, and I will try my best to figure out how to make those changes.  Thx for the info.

Peace Love

Konnath,

Very nice site ... nice lay out and like to borders on your content boxes. Is it full customized? Or do you use some of the GP Features and just add things in? I wonder because the background is static - meaning the foreground moves across it while it remains the same. I'd like to know how to do this
