Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to

The website is still a work in progress, and I am very open to ideas suggestions.

I really like to tone and feel of your site. Color scheme is good, graphics are nice, and the image on the front page is a good touch. Very nice job.
If I had one constructive critique, it would be that the background is a bit busy. The text may be a bit difficult to read for those that have any sort of vision problems. I have dealt with members in the past that do and they found that our site had needed adjustment to help make it easier on the eyes. Perhaps darkening the background or modifying the actual box content backgrounds to contrast more with the text? I would recommend smoothing the background in the actual content boxes to remove some of the detail or even adjusting the lightness/darkness of the background/text contrast.
Just a thought... REALLY nice job though! The amount of time you put in to it is obvious!

Good idea!... I will have to work on smoothing out the background this week.
Thanks!

Fingers of Fury!
I agree I like the site and colors alot. But my suggestion would be leave the backoround alone, but change the content box backround to something less busy so it is easier to read.
Otherwise great job.

Looks a lot better so far as background goes. (from what i remember) The text... a font that is inherently thicker might make it a bit easier to read. My vision isn't all that bad and the text makes it a bit difficult. Or perhaps a slight increase in font size is another alternative.

Ok, tried both a different font AND increased size slightly. Is there a way to make more fonts available for the website beyond the half-dozen or so found in drop-down on Style Manager page?

The problem with this is that by choosing fonts for your site, your visitors need to have those exact fonts installed on their system. Otherwise your font will turn into a plain one to viewers who don't have what you specify. For example, you choose “Baldur” as your font. Not a lot of people have this so when viewing your page it may turn into something like Ariel or Times. A good work-around is to create an image with the fonts you like in it.

Jimious is absolutely correct.
The drop down contains default fonts that are in every windows installation. Choosing a unique font means that you will need to provide a download of that font for your users to get in order to see the site the way you do.
That won't happen. People just won't go to the trouble of downloading a font like that.
Try to keep text fields in a standard font. The Image suggestion is also good. Great for banners, notices, etc that can be image files.
Just looked at your site though and the text is SO much easier to read than it was. A slightly larger size might make it even better, but I think it looks really good now.
Good work!!!
