Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to

Dorgrin,
there is a lot of content on this web site and it is evident that you have put tons of time into building the site and it looks good..
Just a few suggestions.. the icons have a while border or background on them see about changing it to black so it blends into the background....
I know on the website you say you would like orange or white font.. either way is good i use red on my website...
I am not a pro webdesigner and these are just my opinions, i think if you get a black background on stuff the page will take on a whole new feeling

I've posted a site before, a few months ago, on the original thread, but since I've jumped guilds and am now the admin of the PHALANX Dath'Remar site.

There are still a few kinks in it, like the top image and some of the content box borders. If anyone knows CSS well, I seem to be unable to seperate body text (Content Boxes, Forum Posts) font colour from the Content Box Title colour, and it's impacting on the site.
If anyone knows what may be wrong, send me a messege and I'll send you the CSS I'm using.
Tell me what you think! (PS. I'm no artist so the background art and the banner art are taken from the WotLC Fan Site Kit)

Sorry for not replying sooner...I'm 20 days late. Whenever i checked these forums it showed that there were no new posts in this topic and that 4th page had been empty when I first saw it.
Thank you very much on the feedback. I've made a few changes to the site over the last few days. Which icons were you reffering to? The ones in the forums or those that link to the various pages?
Here's the current site for you to see.
PHALANX
And regarding your site, it looks very sleek. It is one that I would not tire to visit on a daily basis. There are some on guild portal that add a bunch of flashy stuff and you just wanna get away from them and there are some that leave it too simple, your's combines the simplicity of the graphics with the elegance of some of the best sites iIve seen for a very nice website. Kudos! Especially that banner image...very nice mate
There's just something missing...but I can't put my finger on it yet. I think I'm used to having those large tab images lol. Out of curiosity, we could become cross-server allies if you want. I certainly wouldn't mind having discussions on site graphics and design.

Nice work Dorgrin, I like the boxes. But it looks like there is an allignment issue with two of them. Make sure the extend image is set, and isn't too small (I had it set to a 1px wide image and had the same issue, just had to keep toying with it till it lined up).
The adds are eating up a lot of realistate, you're looking at 630 pixels before any content. You may want to compress the background on your banner to about 180-190px so that it fits your guild name and wow logo better. And likewise, see what is adding all of the dead space to the top and bottom of your menu. Ideally, you'll want to have your content start in the top ~300 pixels. With adds you'll probably be pushing 400+ with just a basic banner and menu. But at 600+ people are going to have to scroll just to get to the headlines of your content.
Speaking of headlines, I would look into doing something to make the box titles stand out more. The simple regular font text on the textured backgrounds don't stand out so well.
A great start though!

Yep, I'm working on the content titles, but they're at the bottom of my to-do list. First I want to trim down those border images as firefox renders them incorrectly whilst IE 7 renders them fine but evenly spaces out the content boxes despite my layout settings. I will work on making the banner smaller of course, and will consult my guild about becoming a sponsor guild, although only officers use the forums (no-one else bothers). I'm using firefox with AdBlockPlus addin for it and just forbid the ads....so I don't always see the feel of the site.
Any Ideas on how to get people to visit them?

I like the banner, but may I suggest sprucing the theme up a bit with some custom images? We used that theme before and it's not all that appealing. Some tab bar images would go nicely at a minimum
You guys all know about Thottbots new tooltip feature? You can find more about it
here
.
It's pretty cool, though until GuildPortal puts it into their HTML you'll have to make a free-form content box and put the HTML into that, I used various things on my site to cover it up. (Realm Status Box anyone?)

Thanks for the suggestion Dorgrin. I'm basically a noob when it comes to anything involving changing pre-made themes. Don't even know where to start or how to go about changing anything. I would love to have icons for the other pages on our site, but I don't know how to do that. Any help with anything would be greatly appreciated.

No problem! What would you like it to look like? Nothing to fancy if you don't mind lol, I'm not good enough to draw things that are too complicated, that Icon border was drawn by a pro designer for me. And I stole those box border images from my wow directory lol.
Anyway, take a look at the other sites and see what you like. There's lots of interesting stuff to take ideas off. Do you have a program such as photoshop?

I like this guild's set up of page buttons and box layouts. Anyway I can get something similar? I don't want to take the entire look and have mine the same only purple
I would love to incorportate our guild crest which is 2 lighting bolts - anyway to do that in the background of the boxes or as a little icon on each box border? I want to keep the purple theme because that is our guild color.
I also like how the officer lists look different on some webpages - how can I get mine to look like yours does?
I don't have photoshop, but I believe my partner does on her computer. I don't know what is complicated to do and what is not, so please let me know if my thoughts are way out there!!
Thanks for all the help Dorgrin - much appreciated!

Ok.....well, first off, you're better off making that lightning bolt in the corner of the border images. If you want, I can modify the borders on that page to a purple colour and change the image to a lightning bolt (I'm not in a very drawing mood...stealing will be fine for me atm).
I made my Officer List with photoshop. I made a seperate image for each title and each name. I plan to modify it too. The images on mine are from the WoW Forums page (the little icons).
I can even give you that same swirly background in purple if you want.....but I'm not sure if you want to copy that ENTIRE theme.
As for the Tab Images....they're beyond me at present. Well...not really, but I'm a little lazy to go that far. Changing hues and tiling is one thing....creating an entire button is another.
It might be easier if you email me about all of this. Send me some GuildPortal mail and I'll get back to you.
