Amazing site, i can tell you put tons of time into it.. the color scheme is amazing. I like it a lot .. tell me more about how it came to be.. where did the background come from?

Thanks!  The background is from WoW's fansite package, just a regular screenshot they had.  I then took one that was close, but not exactly the same, and cut the bridge out to make the banner.  I love blue =P and our tabard used to be blue, so therein is how we got our color scheme (it's now white with a gold icon of a crown).

I've done a small amount of revamping on my site thanks to the help of some fellow GP members.  Take another look and let me know what you think.  Any feedback is much appreciated!

well, i guess it's time i sucked it up and set out to here the input, hard to get input from my members as they just like saying that it's great no matter what i do. Hopefully i can get some actual advice and thoughts...

i'm not using the CSS modules (cause i don't know code, though i'm trying to learn) and i'm working already to update the banner and some of the page icons. Please, any thoughts, advice or assistance would be appreciated.

Love the quote!

My one opinion would be to add a little color into the banner as the title blends in with the black and white toons. If you like to keep it B&W, maybe throw a white glow around the letters to make them stand out better.

This is just a personal thing, but maybe add in some small images to go with the News Categories (game news, guild news, site news, etc).

ooooo... i like the additional image thoughts, the banner is a fading .gif and was an early attempt to learn the programs i have, working with my members for new ideas as we speak.

thanks for the advice, i'll definately try those...

anyone know how i can fix the pixelation of the page tab icons?

Ahhhh, right you are! I had animations turned off in my Ad blocker and didn't see it transition. Banner looks good!

Your page width is ~1240 pixels. That means the only way to see the right most content with out scrolling is running a browser maximized as 1280x1024, which is well above the recommendations of 800x600-1024x768.

It appears to be the WoW calendar that is pushing your width, if you want to keep it, move it to it's own page and strip off the side bars. Your news images aren't much smaller though. I would recommend resizing them down to ~300-400px widths. If you want, you can set them up as links so that on the main page you see the smaller version and when you click on them you can see the full sized version.

The purple on your banner is very dark, it is hard to make out on the black background. The central icon of your banner is also at a lower quality/resolution than the rest of the image. I would look for a better sample of the insignia, or work at cleaning that one up and adding detail so that it is more cohesive with the rest of the banner. Also, your banner is there to market your guild, not WoW. So you should probably work at bringing your guild's name more into the focus of the image, and delude or remove the WoW logo.

Your banner is a tad tall, but you are under 400 pixels between the top of the page and the top of your content, which isn't horrendous. It does mean a lot of scrolling though.

The lens flair effect on your menu buttons makes them a bit hard to read. If you darken the flair effect to a mid-tone gray it should make the text easier to read. The purple highlighting on the selected tab also makes it blend into the background a bit oddly, which is a large contrast from the black vs texture background the unselected tabs have.

The small boxes on the left and right of each page are inconsistent. A box is on the left on one page, then on the right on another, then missing on a third. You don't need every box on every page, but use some consistency as to where things are. If you look at my site: http://nidavellir.guildportal.com, other than the home page, every page has the exact same layout.

Knocking the sizing gripes out right away. You're just shy of 400 pixels between the top of the page and the top of your content. Not horrendous, but not great. Trimming up this wasted vertical space means less scrolling on every single page. Horizontally, you're just over 800 pixels. Once again, not great, but not horrendous. People with 17" + monitors wont likely complain, but they will want to run their browsers in full screen mode of as very large windows.

I like the black and white effect on the banner, but it makes your guild name virtually impossible to read. I would make a few recommendations. 1) Use photoshop to resize the characters slightly smaller, make sure anti-aliasing is on as this will help smooth out those edges as well as reduce the vertical space used. 2) Drop the word 'Welcome'. 3) Color your guild name, nothing too dramatic, maybe a nice classy gold or bright silver with a slight drop shadow effect to make it easier to read against the black and white characters in the background.

For the menu images, shorten them vertically. The icons are fine, but move the text to a vertically consistent location on each of them. Clean that font up too, I'm not sure what's up with the bright blue pixels on the dark blue font, but it isn't helping.

I would also look at the colors you are using. Putting two primary colors right next to each other creates a very strong visual reaction and will draw the eye towards the juncture of those colors. Which will make the borders of your boxes distract people from the text that they contain.

High contrasts will do this as well, the very bright blue on the black background will draw attention, but due to the way the human eye works, it is actually of limited benefit to use a large amount of text in this way (there was a great piece of web research on this, I've long since lost the link though). Using high contrast colored text works to snap peoples' attention, but is difficult to read for long. So use such color schemes sparingly.

The darker blue text, while not quite so glaring, is still a bit challenging to read. I would recommend going with more of a slate-blue or slightly grayish blue instead of the dark blue to make it easier on the eye.

And that's all I can say... cause I'm gonna get a wikkid headache if I stare at the red/blue/black combo too long

that current look was my poor attempt at a holiday theme... i failed    lol
any suggestions for a color scheme including a mid-tone purple (ls color) with black and gold, like how to set it up?

how can i edit the pixels from the top since i don't use the CSS stuff? the banner i did was in paintshop (i don't have photoshop, yet) and i'm not the greatest at all the lingo. Some of that i understood, though the technicals i could use a translation of and how can i fix that...

I'm gonna go play with it some and see if i can't fix these things...

thanks for the input, i'm happy to here more that can make it work...

and i love the look of your site by the way, anything you have to offer is well worth listening too...

I was in the mood to try some new tricks out on fonts, I wound up putting this together:

No alternate text supplied.

If you want to use it, it's all yours, but please host it yourself. I got to play with my font idea, and I like how it turned out, so I'm happy.
