Ebon, site mods made, new color scheme finally set up... give it a look if you can.

Site is available for all to view and comment...
(not good with making links and stuff guys, sorry)

Very nice. The colors are consistent, the banner, menu, and borders all work really well together and give it a very unified appearance. It is very minimalistic, simple, easy to navigate. There isn't much distracting the eye from the content.

I would change the color and size of the font on your welcome box though, the blue is a bit hard to read, and a slightly large font may make it draw the reader there first.

You are also sitting at about 400px in vertical space before content. Not great, but not the end of the world. You may be able to trim down on the wasted space a bit by checking for padding and margins in the CSS and cropping the menu images.

You could try moving the navigation menu to a left side box. That would pull your content up a lot. Just make sure to set the navigation menu side box to be in the same position on every page.

Me personally, I like a little bit of flair too. I created a similarly styled border, but I added a small shield with our guild's insignia on it and put that over the gradient for the top left corner (see here). I also added custom icons for the news entries. It's just my taste though, so if you're more of the minimalist, stick with what you have

i wanna show off mine tooooooooooo!
just ignore the scramble at the end of the banner animation, photobucket is causeing that. other than the banner and the buttons its the standard bland GP stuff though.

Your animated GIF is 2.6 MB. Over dialup, that would take about 12 and a half minutes to download.

The text on your menu images is inconsistent.

The combined height of your menu and banner puts the top of your content at about 515px. Anyone on a 17" monitor is likely going to have to scroll to see much of anything on every single page.

The white font on gray backgrounds for your headers are very hard to read and do not attract the eye.

The left side box is not rendering correctly. The content appears to be too wide for the box. You may be able to use the custom CSS to correct this.

blue on the welcome? oops, forgot i did that.... i'll fix that one later, i added a different welcome message for members so forgot about the color on that one...

I'm working on coming up with an insignia for the guild, as we're a Final Fantasy Guild it's been a bit difficult to come up with but i've got a few i'm working on putting together, i'll let ya know when i get something together on that...

I'm putting together some other site looks too for holidays and whatnot, so check it occasionaly in case ya don't hear from me and let me know what i could do to improve it

Getting Started!

I really love a lot of the sites on here, which oddly enough is why I went and tried something completely different.

Hence, the content/nav/content layout

The layout itself is pretty much done, just need to tweak the text/link colors a bit, and still have to change some graphics.

Just the homepage is done so far though, still have to finish all the rest, but it's getting there!

Guild Mojo! Enjoy!

P.S. This only works with IE 7+, opera 9+, and Firefox 2+. I haven't checked Safari (don't have access) so if someone using that browser could link me with a screenshot of my site that'd rock!

P.P.S. And if there's any gurus out there, I can't figure out why there are broken images to the left of every news item. Even when I disable my custom CSS, and hit "default", they still exist. I've queried Help but no response so far. Anyone run into this before?

In IE7, the transparency over a floating background causes a significant amount of lag when scrolling. Even on a high end PC, scrolling in IE looks like a slide show. And given the amount of vertical scrolling involved in the GP layout, it's going to kill anyone who's visiting with IE.

The background is also a bit too vivid IMO. Given the rather bland coloring of the foreground and the lack of foreground graphics, the detail in the background along with the floating nature draws people away from your content as the background is the most visually interesting thing to look at.

The 3-column layout on the front page causes the content pane to be a bit small, and the imagery in the "1000 words" block doesn't seem to be associated with the site.

When switching from the Home page to any other page, the layout changes from 3-column to 2-column, which is fine, except that the navigation menu moves from the middle column to the right column. Your navigation should be consistent, in the same place on every single page.

You really need to work on branding your web site. The dark red font on the translucent black background isn't really attention grabbing. Other than the hard to read "Guild Mojo" at the top of the page, the only other mentioning is in the text of your content.

The site looks like it is primarily just a clone based on one of the predefined packages. Not that that is bad, just that there isn't a whole lot of customization to critique.

A few things though. You're right around 330px from the top of the page to your content. That's actually pretty good, especially considering you still have the free-be mode banner in there.

The menu images are all the same. It's a nice consistency, but the graphics do not help the visitor to differentiate between the options.

The home page tab's selected image is the same as it's unselected image.

If you are comfortable going into the custom CSS, see if you can change the red borders in the forum to match the purples of the rest of your site.

Your banner could also be livened up a bit to make it grab attention a little better. Right now with the free-be ad up, it loses out to the flashier adds. With out the free-be ad it would probably be just fine.

Becoming Adept!

Working on a "medieval" themed layout. Any suggestions as to how I can make this look better?
