Becoming Adept!

I have a background that ive uploaded to an external image hosting site (photobucket) and it is a background that ive personally created and wanted to use for my guild page background. well when i try to use it, it comes out small... i need however to re-size it but i am unsure of how... im assuming it would have to be done in the free html section but again i am unsure of HOW to do that specifically...

image: http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa219/Widow-Of-D00m/Bannerflagcopy.png

original size: w-1257 by h-1293

please help, thank you

well what i do for my background is messaure my dimensions of my screen and make it from that. if your going be changing ur side alot try a exstension for google crome (also on firefox) called measureIt lets ur messure stuff helpful if u want to map say a floater image to a certain coordinate. Also yo u could try going to the great Mottie site and go to Theme> Add an auto-resizing background image

Asylum RULES!

Hi CandaraQueen and Shadowstts!

CandaraQueen I am unclear as to how you want to resize your background image. Did you want to resize it to a larger dimension once or as Shadowstts showed you to have it automatically resize? I'm guessing automatically resize. The post I made above on auto-resizing background image is an older version that only works on pages that don't scroll down. But there is a newer option, I need to update that post, using CSS3 which is available in all the newer browsers (so it won't work in IE8 and lower).
body {
background: #000 url(
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa219/Widow-Of-D00m/Bannerflagcopy.png) center center fixed no-repeat;
-moz-background-size: cover;
background-size: cover;
}

yes i was wanting it bigger to the original size. when i uploaded it to photobucket it shrank it but it said when trying to copy a code link for it, it told me i may need to resize it well i didnt know how to do that.

heres some pics of what im talking about

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa219/Widow-Of-D00m/code1.jpg
its a direct link and i even tried "wrapping" it in additional html code but didnt work

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa219/Widow-Of-D00m/code2.jpg
this one said it would display at its full size... the problem is, it didnt..

is there a way i can upload the background picture directly to my guild portal site like as if it was part of a theme u can select through?

edit:

this is the original background i was using on my site so when i made my custom background i used its exact dimensions so it would be the same size

Hi CandaraQueen!

It sounds to me like you have the photobucket setting to resize your image. I'd recommend changing this to the 1mb limit instead. Also the original picture you linked is a png type image which sadly ends up being slightly larger than jpg images so it may be bigger than 1mb - I don't know but you can change the image type if this is the case.

Anyway, in photobucket, click the "Upload now" button then find the link at the bottom "Customize your upload options" (cursor is pointing to it in the image below). In the popup window, select "Best possible quality..." then save.

As to uploading the image to your own GuildPortal files, just go to Control Panel > File Manager > Upload files. Once uploaded, just click "Get Url" and copy the link from there. Then go to Control Panel > Style Tools > General Style Settings > Background tab > Image URL, and paste in the Url there.

well i did exactly as u said, with the photobucket thing and it still came out small... well smaller than it was supposed to be.

i then also tried to upload it like u said and it says i have 15mbs left and the file itself is only a little over 3mbs and yet when it finishes loading, its not there for me to "get url"

Edit: i also wanted to ask u, that i went to ur help site and i noticed ur news box has a scroll bar, how did u get that? i looked all over the site (found other things i might try btw) but not that.. maybe i looked in the wrong spot? but either way i couldnt find it LOL

Hi CandaraQueen!

Yeah since your image is so big, anything over 1 mb causes photobucket to automatically resize it to make it smaller. I think you're going to have to change the file type from png to jpg and maybe reduce the quality a bit more if the file is still over 1mb. I wouldn't recommend having such a large background image anyway, it increases the perceived load time of the page (initially, until the image is cached) and takes even longer to load for people with slow internet connections.

As for the News box, just add this bit of CSS to your custom css (Control Panel > Custom HTML & Script > Custom CSS > CSS Additions to Standard). Adjust the height (in red) to your preference.
.gpWidget-newslrg .blkContent {
    height: 350px;
    overflow-y: auto;
    overflow-x: hidden; /* this line may not be necessary, unless a horizontal scroll bar appears */
    padding-right: 5px;
}

yea the image is large but i took the size from a background image that we had originally used http://www.axiomfiles.com/images/ThemeGfx/GenPBack/rompageback1.jpg   from a theme pack. and i tried jpg format and it actually made the file size bigger.. isnt that odd?? O_o

im just not sure what to do now, i had this nice background and stuff but cant use it btw thanks for telling me about the news box it will come in handy

oh and while i got u here... lol... i used ur technique for the spash page and it came out quite well

www.candaraguardians.guildportal.com

but if u notice there is ALOT of space from the top to where it says "welcome guest to". i tried to move it up but then it got all wonky on me so i just had to redo it to factory standard... any ideas? not only that, the splash page tab still shows up on the "home" page of the site, and i tried both of ur methods to get it to "disappear" but it still remains, any suggestions?

and i noticed on alot of widgets, ur help sites and even on here there is alot of stuff for other games but not really anything for RoM... have u seen anything around for it? i really wish there was an addon like wow's where it connects the guild portal site and the game... mkay well thanks for any and everything in advance ^.^

Edit: OH i almost forgot to ask, when u got to the guild portal main site http://www.guildportal.com/Default.aspx there is like a scroll bar thingy up at the top, how would i get one of those? does it only do rss feeds? or can i make it set up for my guilds news? i know so many questions so little time XD
