Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to

Browser lockup on Edit Free Form.

Fingers of Fury!
I am getting a browser lockup when editing Free Form content. I am using win98 (I know, but unless you aren't using Microsoft at all, don't dog me), and IE 6.0.....
This problem started sometime on Jan 25th, after around 6AM EST.
It locks up all open browser windows that are open to any GuildPortal page (I didn't try the GuildPortal homepage, but I can easily duplicate the problem against GuildPortal Admin Forum page, and any page on our guild site).
It seems that after saving new free form content (which is saves successfully, by the way), the next request to refresh the page or navigate to any other page on any GuildPortal page anywhere will lock up all the browsers on those pages.
Pages that are not from GuildPortal work fine while the others are locked.
The only way to "unlock" these pages is to reboot. They cannot be shut down even by killing them at the process level.
Further, at the same time this started happening, the java client that I use to build and post reports (attendance, loot, etc) stopped working. This is the same client that I had changed to use Web Services (until they went away without warning) for posting, and then changed back - it has worked for over a year with the exception of when a ninja change was made to the free form editor post info.
Please resolve this quickly. If we can't update our pages, there is no sense for us to host here.
Thanks.

Does the same thing happen when you post, edit/add a news item, or anything else that involves the wysiwyg editor? Or is it limited to the freeform content type?

It appears limited to the free form content type. As a side note, I can load up netscape (which loads a different content editor from GuildPortal) and have no problems.

Alright, reading from the first post, I should have asked thisbefore... Is the lockup happening after you're manually updating afreeform content item, or is it exclusively when it's part of anautomated process?

Manual update, via the javascript popup window. It occurs upon saving, I think right after the edit popup window goes away, but it may be right before it goes away. In any case, the popup window does go away, but it's over at that point.
I am thinking that there is some kind of automated update that is supposed to refresh the page that you just edited (and saved), and this code is going nuts.
What I was saying about the automated process is that it no longer works. When it has finished posting, the new content is empty. Looks like maybe the form field name for the content has changed, but I haven't dug into it. Worst case, I can probably work around this by forcing the popup window into thinking that a netscape style browser is accessing it, but I was hoping to avoid going back and re-doing all that stuff.

There is some code in there that's supposed to close the editor windowright after a save, and that's about all the client-side stuff that'sgoing on. What I'm pushing right now is code that will take outthat auto-close and replace it with some text that just says "Thefreeform content was saved." We'll see if that fixes it for you.

I'm not sure if this sheds any light on this but I figure that any data might be helpful. I have used Spyhunter, a spyware elimination program, twice including this evening. Immediately after running it, I'm able to use FreetextBox in a popup window once or twice and it works normally. On the second or third time following that, it locks up IE again as before.

To make things easier for Aaron, please post specifics when commenting on problems. Currently, the FreeTextBox editor only locks up IE when it is saved from a popup window and this appears to be javascript related. If something else is happening to you, it is probably unrelated.
