Two new widgets go live today! The first, Raid/Op Groups, lets you group individual characters that are associated with your guild into groups for raiding, with the ability to specify role. For example, you could have "Monday Night Group 1" as a raid/op group and it could have five characters, each with their roles ("DPS", "Tank", "Heals", etc) specified.

The second is the EQ2 Server Status widget, which displays the status of the server your EQ2 guild plays on.

Aaron,

I know I've asked for this but have been busy in SWTOR so haven't been checking updates as often as before.  I was pretty sure you'd gin up something good.

Thank you for working on the raid/ops groups and I'll try the new ability out as soon as I can.

Getting Started!

Can you tell me (us) if there are currently any plans to...

Further flesh this feature out:
1.) Ability to create an Alliance Wide Raid Group while maintaining the ability to keep a Guild Only Raid Group.
2.) Define a set of "roles" (dps, tank, etc) that can be selected instead of free-typing on each raid member.

Feature Abstraction:
1.) Allow users to chose from Admin-defined roles (see #2 above) for each of their characters.
2.) Allow admin the ability to define the structure of a raid group (x <role 1>, y <role 2>, etc) and grant users of various access types ability to "sign up" to the raid group (guild only or alliance wide) with some form of approval for signups.

Calendar / Event Integration:
1.) Option to create an event at the time of raid group creation
or
2.) Option to assign a raid group to an event at event creation (Personally preferred)

I understand that this feature was only deployed as of 1/27.  I am simply trying to get a feel for what direction this feature will be taking and if any of these options have been considered, are on the table, or are completely out of the question for various reasons.

Thanks guys!

Hi Snowmanx,

For the Further fleshed out:

1) Yes, we plan to allow allies into the raid groups, soon
2) Not 100% sure what you are getting at here -- But I think the answer is no.

Feature Abstractions:

Do you mean sortof a "Join" this raid group option?  A user could say click on a link to say they want to be part of that raid group?  Or are talking about something else?

Calendar / Event Integration:

When we proposed this widget idea we had mixed reactions about this issue.  I think we are leaning towards an icon (or something) that the admins can add to the event, that would indicate its for one raid group, but nothing to force sign up, more of a visual cue for the members.

Hi Sandy, and thanks for the response!

What I mean was:
In the Raid Group widget, you have a few steps to take:
1.) Creation - Name / Description / Sort Order
2.) Set Roster - Check Box selection process only - currently excludes Members from Allied Guilds (Saw your response to that though).
3.) Click on each person that you have added and set their "Role / Title" and "Sort Order"

What I meant in the original question was concerns step #3.  In fact, you already have this somewhat set up.  In the Calendar's Editor, we have the ability to create a custom set of "Roles" that users will be able to select from as the "Role" that they will fill in the given raid / group.

There are a lot of possibilities for using those pre-defined "Roles".  One of those would be for Role Assignment inside of the Raid Group widget.  Another, and possibly better / more robust possibility, would be to allow users (in their profile for each of their characters) to select what "Role" that character fills - again, pulling from the list of pre-defined roles that are set up in the Raid Calendar (or where ever it ends up being).

Yes, a "Join the Raid group" type function.  However, tying it back into the "Roles" stuff.  Instead of creating a Raid Group with X people inside (or X spots), create a Raid Group with X Spots of Y Roles.  For example, create a raid group and define that it has 8 spots: 2 x Heals, 2 x Tanks, 4 x DPS where "Heals," "Tanks," and "DPS" are defined somewhere else as "Roles" that raid members may fill.

Great, thanks!

After working with the new widget for a bit, I support the recent suggestions above.  I am really interested in:

o Admin defined drop down roles (MT, OT, DPS, Main Heal, Raid Heal, CC, etc.)

o Designation of raid leader, perhaps with an icon, so people know who to direct preparation and other specific encounter questions to.

o Ability to limit signups for the group's events to only the designated group but still be able to select "public" (or associate, allies, members, etc.) for the event visibility.  This helps with recruiting, setting up alliances and growing junior members by letting them see that we are active at the upper levels.

o Make the group structure generic as possible to allow the set teams to be used for scheduling PVE Raids/Operations as well as PVP ladder progression for established groups.

On the other hand, for our particular guild, cross alliance raid group membership functionality is not very high on our list of priorities at this point though it may be important to other guilds.

Thanks for getting this widget started.

(Cogar edited for minor formatting and expansion on why the raid leader should be marked)

The abililty to invite only a specified group to a raid would be fantastic!

It appears that 8 months have passed with no improvements to this widget to make it serve a purpose.  Based on the long delay, my 2-cents' worth probably won't help much but here goes...

I set up our first Raid Group today and assumed that I would be able to use the group to determine who could sign up for an event, in the same way I am currently able to specify which ranks can sign up.  The image below is a screenshot from the new event window, showing the drop-down where I select who can sign up.  I expected my new raid group to be an option there but it wasn't.

In fact, it seems that the only thing the raid/ops group does is list who is in the group.  I can do that just as easily with a Freeform/HTML widget AND I could add some nifty graphics to that widget.

So, please change the raid/Ops Group function to actually create a new group in GuildPortal, not just a list of names.  Allow admins to create events specifically for these groups as the admins above asked for so many months ago...
