Becoming Adept!

Hey all,

I have just decided, today, to switch from using my own server, to using guildportal.com. I wont go into the reason here. However, I will say that I love the GP features.

Anyways, I just started on my design, and so far, I am happy with it.

I'm looking for some critiques on it. What I really want to know is if everything seems aligned properly, if the text is easy to read, and if anyone can see any serious/semi-serious flaws anywhere.

I would greatly appreciate any and all comments!

BTW: The forum is the only section I have not yet "completed" There is much CSS for me to tweak to make those look right.

The site i was hosting my images on was acting strange. only Netscape/Firefox users were able to see the hotlinked image. I fixed this problem by uploading to another temporary host, until I pay for a premium GP subscription. Once I do that, I'll re upload everything here.

Anyways, eveything should be in working order now.

Looks very nice and I dont have any problem reading anything.  The banner and Welcome thing is really nice.  Wish I knew one bit of photoshop so I could do banners like that.

Good job. Perhaps you can answer my question that has been floating on the GP commnity pages for months then?

You banner covers the entire web layout. How can I get the same effect. Most banners are cut off at the margins but I hate this because mine is panoramic.

Thanks.

very striking... love it

.....and if i may suggest dar if you want you could create a banner 1024 wide.

If you want it to one side- Fill in the area u don't want filled in with a banner with just the color of the background you can fill those into photoshop's color selector.

If you want it the width of the webspace (i host ours on my own webspace due to its size v/s normally photobucket for me) 1024 would make it the "standard" width but now with so many on widescreens it would be difficult to cater to it that way...

As far as any html side of that.... I'm not the girl to ask :) There I just know enough to be dangerous....

Thanks for the comment guys.

Actually my banner doesn't really stretch at all. I just made it, as well as the page layout, 1000 pixels wide. The reason for this is that, nowadays, most people are using a 1024x768 screen resolution. By making my banner 1000 pixels wide, it fills just about the whole viewable browser area for those with that resolution, while still leaving space for the scrollbar of the left.

There is really no way to "stretch" an image without losing quality.

I'm not sure, and I will test this theory when I buy a subscription and have header HTML access, but...

Perhaps a simple table, combined with a couple .png images, each in it's own td, and one repeating table background would work for you.

Actually, I just put up an example of how to do it.

I hope that helps!

Oh btw: is the gallery on my guild page working fin for everyone? I tested in in IE, Firefox, and Opera and it worked fine in all of them.
