Mail Notification v6
by Mottie
Description
This mod opens a popup to notify you if you have a new mail message. It was written for users who wish to hide their top menu bar (state bar/log in bar). Or if you just want a bigger message telling you that you have mail. I've set it up to open either a growl window (timed popup) or a facebox (popup you have to close).
For more information on the custom variables, please see
this post
.
To style the growl window (pictured above), use the "Growl Window Styling" Mod or refer to
this post
.
To style the Facebox popup window, please refer to

Fingers of Fury!
I would like to make custom box border images for our site but i have run into a huge problem. I have no idea how to format the size of each piece! I understand that there is left top corner, right top corner, etc but I was hoping soeone has a template for sizing or even a broken down image to help me get started. Everything I have tried has been a mess!
Thanks!

I know of no 'template,' persay, but I would definately suggest doing your work in paint.net and making the WHOLE image of the box first. THEN, you can cut them up into left corner, top, right corner, etc.
Yeah, doing this is kind of a pain on GP, but it's worth it, as it allows for much design freedom.
Trial and error, ,trial and error. Once you get a whole image, just start plugging them in to the correct slots and edit them accordingly.
That's what I did.

My worry is the variable box size. Do I need to design and then use css? (I suck at css even with dreamweaver)

If you look at an example of a predone box in Box Border Images, you'll see the vertical and horizontal images are just one small piece that will get repeated to create the line for that edge. Variable box sizes shouldn't be a problem.

I have done all the graphics for our site and getting the images just right was trial and error at first.
If you highlight each piece of my box border content you should get an idea of pixel sizes you are looking at.
I did all the graphics in Photoshop CS3, but I am sure paint or an earlier PS version will work for ya.

I made ours in photoshop.
You first need to draw the whole box border.
Then go into image ready and slice it up like a tic tac toe grid. making all the images across the top and bottom be the same height and the images at each side the same width as the corner images. Save the slices and you're done.

Not that I'm an expert -- just trial & error on my part too.
Rosary_KT is right that you have to create the "box" as one complete graphic & then slice it up into the subparts needed to construct the box.
I used a nice cheap program called
Xara Xtreme
I made a write-up in another forum post [
here
]. Hopefully this link works & that the post is helpful.
Enjoy!

I just found your post last night Neutrio. I used your info and I also made my box in CS3 then sliced. Maybe I'm just doing something stupid but I can't seem to get everything sized quite right. I keep getting a space and/or my content area is off, too small, too big, or too high. It's driving me nuts!!!!

In photoshop all I did was create my horizontal and vertical bars, then frag them to exact size in respect to horizontal = height and vertical = width. Easiest and fastest way.
Note: Make sure you flatten image before cutting or else effects change with cuts, unless its part of design.
