-Initial lecture by an unknown drill instructor. Aundair, 992 YK
A Stalwart Defender is not a fighting man, he is an armor expert. If it attacks, he agitates it. If it hurts other party members, he distracts it. If the wizard is running for her life, he saves her. Beaten, mobbed, and overwhelmed he stands his ground. If he’s lucky he’ll die young; incinerated by arcane fire for that is the closest he’ll ever get to being a hero.
He will get no praise, no recognition for his actions, no bard will sing of him. As he returns from the field of battle he goes to his barracks to tend to his armor; fix the dings and adjust the fittings for the next battle to ensure victory.
Do you think his companions will do that? NO! They run to the nearest tavern singing their own praises on how many of the enemy they killed and how much of a super star they are without realizing that the only reason they are still alive is because of you! They will never have a clue on what caused their good fortune, or why that particular battle went their way…but oh boy will they feel good about themselves!
Khyber, I don’t know why ANYONE would want to be a Stalwart Defender!
