A very thin, but fit, male human figure dressed in travelers garb enters the tavern. His dark hair and bright green eyes are complemented by a distinctive black cape and dark fedora. He holds a bronze capped ebony cane. As he walks toward the desk, it is apparent that the cane is a fashion accessory. When he speaks, his voice is rich and smooth, “Good day Lords and Ladies, I am Biff, wizard extraordinaire.”
“Yes, yes, I know. You must be asking yourself, what is a mage from Aundair doing here? Why would one highly distinguished graduate of the University of Wynarn, and apt pupil of the Arcanix, ever risk bodily harm traveling to Stormreach?”
Biff pauses for dramatic effect. “Why for the dragonshards, of course.”
A little halfling, who has been dozing on a chair in a corner of the tavern opens her bleary eyes and looks at the newcomer. "Well, hello, wise and extraodinary wizzard!" she yawns, stretching herself. She had been out all night on business. Then she takes in the smooth cane and the good qualitiy clothes. Her face suddenly brakes into a warm welcoming smile:"Welcome in Stormreach, friend!" she says, sideling up to him. "Tell me, how I can help such a distinguished traveler? Oh, and did you know, it is absolute law here, that you have to buy the first person to welcome you on these shores a drink and a hot meal. Seriously! You can end up in a dungeon for disregarding this!" She looks up at him expectantly...
Biff looks down to the little halfling who moved so close to him. He then takes one large step back, so as to get the little woman out of his personal space. “One second, I’m looking for….” Right as Biff was going to finish his sentence, another female darts in and gives him a hasty welcome. Biff makes a mental note to ask for the elf’s name next time he sees her.
Just then he hears the soft voice from a mysterious figure. As Biff realizes that the new person is a drow his eyes widen with wonder. He had read about the drow of Xen’drik, but he never thought he would meet one (much less a civilized one) in his first day in Stormreach!
Just then a warforged enters and takes a position behind the dark elf. Since the warforged says nothing, he assumes that he is her protector.
Biff takes a moment and then looks to the Halfling. “Ah, why of course. Barkeep! A meal for my new friend, and bring a bottle of decent wine.”
Once the wine arrives, Biff looks to the Halfling. “Renessa, you can help me with something. I am looking for someone.” Biff reaches into his sidebag, and pulls out a scroll tube. The scroll tube is secured by a wax seal.
“I believe you people and uh… warforge, are members of the Fellowship of the Golden Night, correct? Yes? Great. Now, which one of you can take me to a woman named Hope? I am to meet her and deliver this message from my Master.”
“No one seeks out the Lady, the Lady seeks you out.”
The voice seems to come from nowhere and yet everywhere at once. From a flickering shadow near the fire place a figure emerges into the room, almost materializing from nothing. The figures attire belies him to be a wizard of some sort. He is dressed in purple velvet robes trimmed with golden runes and carries a tall staff, its dark wooden shaft glistening in the firelight, the large amethyst gem on top throwing rays of purple light in all directions.
Aristoblis steps forward, his eyes fixed upon the new mage, their silvery sheen burning out from under the shadows of his hood. His stare seem to penetrate straight into your soul.
“As I said, young one, no one comes to the Lady. If you have business with Her, She will find you.” Aristoblis’ voice was as eloquent as only an elf could be, yet there was a knowing in his voice that was unquestionable.
Aristoblis slowly slides across the room towards the focus of his attention. As he moves, he shifts his gaze to the dark elf in the corner. He nods his head reverently to Elisan and shifts his focus to the halfling befriending the mage. Aristoblis’ lip curls into a thin grin for a moment.
As he reaches the young mage, Aristoblis extends his grayed hand, “I am Aristoblis Spelbinder, my young friend. And if I understand correctly, you are Biff.”
Biff reaches out with a gloved hand and gives Aristoblis a limp and weak handshake. “You are correct on one account, elf.” Biff then takes a full step away from Aristoblis, to make sure the newcomer was outside of his personal space.
“My name is Biff, but I am going to have to disagree on your earlier statement. I am seeking the Lady, Hope. My Master gave me very explicit instructions. I am to present myself and this sealed letter to her, and her alone.”
As he talks with Aristoblis, his mind takes him back to the Arcanix, when he was an apprentice. Biff’s thin lips start a slight snarl, but he manages to stop himself and keep a neutral expression. Gah! How he disliked elven wizards! The elves were always better than him at the Arcanix… faster reflexes, ears of a cat, and most of them were handsome to boot. Born with a silver spoon, all of them. But that was then. He had earned his apprentice robes just like the elves, and now he was a full fledged wizard, and no one was going to stop him from completing the task his Master had given him.
Biff shakes his head to clear the memories from his mind. He then looks down to the Halfling. “I do need your help, Renessa. I must hand deliver this letter to the Lady. Since you know her so well, can you can go find her and make a request for an audience on my behalf?” Biff is obviously not very good at trying to butter up Halflings. Biff tries to look confident, but only manages to look like the green horn that he is.
Renessa smirks a little at Aristoblis and looks at Biff, waiting. When nothing more is forthcoming she says, a little pressingly: "Of course, I will help you. I will go and try to find the Lady for you, although, I actually do have some serious and profitable business, I should attend." Again she waits, but Biff just watches her, clearly not knowing what she expects. Renessa sighs and jumps of her chair, 'Well, I did get a nice meal out of it', she thinks. She takes a closer look at Biff and suddenly realizes, that despite his extravagant manners, he is actually quite young. He is also quite cute for a human. She would help him, she decides in the spur of the moment, after all, how difficult could it be to contact the Lady...She gives Biff a reassuring smile and says: "It would probably be helpful, if you could tell me the name of your master, in case the Lady knows him."
