hrm.... Struggling to figure out how to change the character associated with the account, since only a couple of people ever met Kara. But this is Red / Spellfury.

In their infinite wisdom, Turbine created an in-game voice chat system to make communication easier for players.  I'm wondering what a "hardcore" RP guild's stance on RPing in voice chat would be though.  I would assume it would be more like PnP where there's a lot of RPing, but also a lot of OOC talk (though good DMs keep off-topic chatter to a minimum).  In fact, I would think it would be almost impossible to be IC 100% of the time in voice chat, nor do I think it would be nearly as fun.  Thoughts?

I hate voice chat because it draws away from RP imo.  My voice sounds nothing like how I picutre Ranae's...and everyone has their own opinion on how other characters might sound.  I think it kills the atmosphere, and will likely take very little part in it, except where necessary.

Voice chat can be used for OOC stuff but ingame should be text rp only I think.Thats my 2 pence worth anyway. hehe

I agree with Ralth. I tend to play both male and female. Also, tones of voice and emotion can be conveyed better in text. There is also the issue of keeping IC and OOC separate. Playing a character is like putting on a mask. Voice chat would seriously disrupt this, at least for me. I can see voice chat as an asset to convey OOC problems or corrdinating questings. But not for IC use.

ah - I'm  not so sure about that. I was a rogue in the (whisper) last stress test, and it was very frustrating having people run into a trap, just because I couldn't type fast enough to warn them! Now - I'm a pretty fast typer! So voice chat sounds like a good idea to me, or one has to resort to abbreviations...

If you're a rogue and leading the party through a dungeon, then your party members should realise this and never get in front of you unless you are attacked. So basically it is their own fault if they walk into a trap.

As to voice chat, I'm in the camp that says it shouldn't be only RP based, it should stay as ooc, as it is a lot easier to stay in character when you are typing than it is when you are talking.

I would have to also agree.  Voice chat in rp'ing I think can kill a mood, but than again I guess it also depends on the individual.  For me writing/typing better conveys what I want to get across as opposed to speaking.  One thing that voice chat does not really allow the rp'er is body language.  Tones and inflexions are one thing but a lot can be said by how a person is speaking with their body (e.g. sarcasm, cowardice, etc.).

I would think that for a scout (rogue, ranger or whomever is going to fill that role) it would not be unheard of to create signals (in game = macros) which indicate to the party that a trap is ahead or that something has been sighted.

Macros of course are a good idea, and I'm probably going to do that. On the other hand - I think emotions such as sarcasm or especially cowardice could bevery well expressed via voice and sometimes it takes so long to type a quick reposte...

Another problem with voice chat of course would be accents (yes, mine is "germanic...". I've read in another forum that a lot of English people have difficulties with non-English accents
