So, are we tackling pirates tomorrow?
Jaggie 5/16/2013 10:41 PM
yeah for it being back to normal-ish
Lanaliathe 5/14/2013 6:32 PM
Site looks funny due to GP issues with images, apparently. Hopefully back to normal in a few days!
Holden 5/11/2013 1:51 PM
But it's more fun this way... *cackles*
Lilith 5/11/2013 12:15 PM
I'm going to have to try and get there early next week, so Rina and Caelest don't get any privacy to chat... ;-)
Old_Swamper 5/11/2013 12:00 AM
Lotsa RP conversation and planning tonight. A bit of Dan and Rina history revealed! Hope everyone is okay!
Old_Swamper 5/10/2013 10:24 PM
Dan, Rina, and Les are in game. More are welcome to join!
Holden 5/10/2013 12:04 AM
I hardly ever play for purposes other than RP, so I don't imagine it'll be difficult to leave him where he is game logistic-wise.
Lilith 5/9/2013 11:29 PM
I would like it if you kept him low level at least a bit longer... but if you really want to level him then go ahead!
Holden 5/9/2013 12:57 AM
If we do ressurect the old group, I think Holden would come back, but he'll be a different person. I can hold off on levelling him up if y'all wanna leave that door open, but he will grow as a character in the meantime.
Lilith 5/8/2013 8:20 PM
That is very nice. :) But does it mean that, if Tibir ever comes back, Holden won't be available to rejoin the group?
Old_Swamper 5/7/2013 10:19 AM
Okay... I'm not so sick that the end of Holden's Journal did not make me smile wistfully and feel better. Well done, my friend!
Old_Swamper 5/7/2013 10:14 AM
I started Saturday feeling bad, then stood in a pouring rain to cook mass amounts of meats on the grill for wife's Derby Party. NOW I'm really sick!
Holden 5/7/2013 2:23 AM
Little bit of writing about a familiar face I wanted to share. I wanted to execute a subtle but meaningful piece of character development in a way that was connected to the people who brought it on :)
Jaggie 5/6/2013 10:20 AM
*is a much better Jaggie*
Lanaliathe 5/5/2013 1:13 AM
Hope everyone feels a bit better today!
Old_Swamper 5/3/2013 10:12 PM
Great timeing! Saved me the cost of an international phone call (after 9 PM rates!)
Lilith 5/3/2013 10:05 PM
Unexpected update is downloading veeeeery slooooowly...
Old_Swamper 4/27/2013 1:45 AM
Awsome evening! Questing and RP with bells and ribbons! Thank you all!
Holden 4/26/2013 3:07 PM
Or both! Let's keep our options open.

So... I figured, why not... As much as we talk about food in Guild Chat, we ought to have a place to share the recipes, all in one place.

I'll kick us off with something I just concocted for my kids today.

Black Friday Quesadillas
Apply a thin layer of mashed potatoes to a flour tortilla (size is up to you).
Sprinkle finely diced turkey, left over stuffing or dressing on top.
Cover with cheese of your choice. (My son likes diced onions and green bell peppers as well)
Lubricate a pan liberally with butter, and set to medium heat.
Once the butter is melted, lay the finished tortilla in the pan for appx 2 minutes. It should JUST be getting warmed through.
Without taking it off the heat, fold Quesadilla in half, increase heat to medium-high, and use a spatula to even out the filling inside.

When it's finished, the tortilla should be GBD (Golden Brown and Delicious), and the cheese should be thoroughly melted.
Cut in half (pizza cutter works best) and serve.
The Edge... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others- the living- are those who pushed their luck as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later. -- Hunter S. Snake on a stick:

Kill a poisonous snake (Non-posionous ones should be off limits, as they also serve who eat rats and mice and don't poison you) and split the skin down the backbone.  Peel the skin back to the sides and you will find two strips of white meat running the length of the snake.  Should you want the skin tanned for a hatband or knife sheath, split the belly and peel instead.

Note:  Do NOT use water snakes, as they have a disagreeable 'fishy' taste.

Carefully remove both strips so you have two intact lengths of snake meat.  Set aside, or if it pleases you, marinate while you prepare fire and roasting stick.

Cut two green sticks about three feet long, with a diameter of about two to three inches, and remove both outer and inner layers of bark.  Use your most narrowly pointed knife blade to make two holes in the sides of each stick, then whittle pegs for the holes.  The tight fitting pegs will hold the meat in place for roasting.  You may want to trial wrap the meat around the sticks to see where to put the holes.

Cooking:

Heat the sticks throughly over the fire.  They should be quite hot, such that you could not hold on to it without blistering your fingers!

Now, tightly wrap the lengths of meat around the heated sticks, pegging each in place.  Cook over an open fire until a toothpick (whittle a sliver of a twig smooth!) slides in and out easily, with no residue clinging to it.  The hot stick will cook it on one side, while the fire roasts it on the other.

Share with a friend.

Snake is also good when chopped fine and fried in a little bacon fat, then scrambled in eggs.

Enjoy!

Sam

I have a great lack of skill at cooking (decent scrambled eggs is my piece de resistance!), but after seeing this recently I have to offer it up for your delectation... or amusement... or both!

The UK's cheapest meal...

I'm pretty sure my quesadillas are cheaper... since they're made with left overs from a previous meal.

Just sayin'.

Also...

The below is a modified recipe that I've brought to a couple of work get togethers. If the bourbon is a turn off, take it and a cup of water out and sub in a bottle of your favorite beer. I personally prefer to use a good Marzan if it's available, but if you're cheap you can get away with MGD in a pinch. Also, for those that are kosher/veggie, the meat is not a requirement. This works just as well with a lean roast of any kind (just make sure it's diced before hand) or chicken, or additional lentils (I've gone with 1cup lents per pound of meat and not had any complaints).

Note: This is on the milder side that I serve to my 9 year old and 5 year old, so the heat might need to get nudged up a bit if you're a fan of the real deal, and to do that, just double up on the red pepper flakes.

12 slices bacon, diced
1 lb andoullie sausage (diced)
2 cup diced onion
2 clove garlic, minced
2 cup diced bell pepper
6 cups beef stock
3 cups water
2 cup dried brown lentils, rinsed and drained
2 oz kentucky bourbon
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
salt and ground black pepper to taste
Serves 8

DIRECTIONS
Place a large pot over medium-high heat; cook the bacon and andouille in the pot until bacon is crisp, 5 to 7 minutes.
Stir in the onion and garlic; continue to cook until onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
Stir in bell peppers; cook another 2 minutes.
Pour the beef stock and water or alcohol into the pot; bring to a boil. Stir in the lentils, spices; cover and cook for 45 minutes, stirring frequently.

I think this is one that Swamper might enjoy. Feel free to substitute any wild game you might have on hand (just a pound) for the andoullie.
