Order of the Spider, as well as many other guilds, has seen an uptick in the number of members that are getting hacked. New, sophisticated hacks have been created to wreak havoc with players and the game in general.
These days, hackers don't just take your stuff. And the guild's stuff. They now put an authenticator on your account, making it impossible for you to interrupt the careful liquidation of your toon's gear, mats, and money. They then take one (or more) of your toons, typically your most accomplished, and transfer it to another account, at minimum to another server. In talking to the people that have been hacked recently, Blizzard has NOT been able to recover those toons, but will compensate with a blank toon of that class, race, and level or give you in-game cash. You will have to redo all your achievements, re-earn your mounts and reputations. This has been heart-breaking to the players that have experienced this. After the hackers ruin your account, they move on to other members of your guild. This practice is destroying guilds across the realms. I don't know how they are getting through, or why this burns like the plague through guilds, but it is happening.
There is a way to avoid the hackers! GET AN AUTHENTICATOR.
