Using assist aggro to breakup spawns

Greetings all,
I've done this in two places in low level zones, to split spawns that otherwise I couldn't. I don't know if it will work in higher level zones, or if its a well known tactic. Its of limited utility, but its not useless.
With mobs that assist, you can use this to break up larger groups. In the warrens for example, is a room with two kobold pit fighters. These pit fighters are level 14-15. Normally if you get one, you get both. However, if you aggro another kobold, and are fighting it, then you can edge closer and closer to the pit fighters. Eventually the nearest one will break off and come charging up to assist his little buddy. At which point you run like mad back to your kill point and take them both out. That way you are fighting say 1 level 8 and 1 level 15 mob, instead of 2 level 15 mobs.
You can do the same thing hunting heart spiders in Upper Guk. The second room from the bottom is a three spawn. The bottom room is a 2 spawn. Aggro the bottom room, and kill them. Drag out the death of the second one a little to create a nice break. Hang out for respawn. Kill first one. When fighting the second one, edge toward the upper room. At some point, the nearest spider in there will come to assist his pal, leaving the other 2 back in the room.
This might be a way to split tough guardians, so that you have fewer to deal with at one time. Then again, it might not, since there is a rather large difference between Upper Guk and the outer planes.

This is very clever, and I wish I'd thought of that. I'm going to have to try that with one of my younger selves. It looks like it will need a little work to get the rhythm just right.
(From the title, I thought you meant my old rogue tactic of aggroing half the camp and fleeing for the guards. Which, come to think of it, was usually not an intentional tactic, but one of sudden desperation.)

Thanks for saying its very clever - I tripped over it by accident.
I've done the flee for the guards thing too, quite a few times.
You can use that as an SK as well. In the Feerott, hunting lizards, you'll find some heavy healers. Annoying, and not worth the trouble of killing. Especially when you get more than one at the same time.
So snare the one you want, and run to a spot where you know the pathing. Fear the snared one. Run for the guards with the healer in tow. Let the guards take care of them. Head back, the lizard you want will find you. In Netherbian, just snare, and run for a guard. The guard will engage the unsnared ones, and the snared one will run around the guard to get to you.
Hopefully, with feign death now, I won't have to do this sort of thing quite as often.

Yeniu won't be able to do anything as shmancy as that (no snare, and her "fear" is intimidation). (Rogues only solo greens, and then carefully <g>)
Easy to try this with my little 20's enchanter, though. I've been meaning to take her out for a spin.

The way I clear the TIV chamber is actually a variation of this, this is why I keep a "pet" around

Thanks for the ideas, Byaga. Hmmm, I'm wondering if the aggro radius for the assisting mob (i.e mob #2) isn't centered on mob #2, like in a normal pull, but instead is centered on mob #1 (being the one you pulled first) so it doesn't chain aggro. That's one possibility anyway. I like little tactics like this, never know when it could be useful; having Tawliya around to pac and mez means I usually don't have to think about this stuff terribly hard, but it's still handy, thanks!

Another thing I have found with pet classes is that pets agro is quite different to your own, so if you send pet in, then back it off quickly ( while you yourself stand well out of agro range ), its possible to pull singles where if you pulled with a spell you would get them all. If someone could enlighten me how this works with pets ?
I do this all the time in Sebelis while soloing.

Mobs simply don't assist other mobs with killing pets, pretty sure it's a bug, but one that is as permanent as perma-pacc on Al'Kabor.

My experience is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A recent trip to Velks I pet pulled a named spider to the safe hall. Every spider in the vicinity came with it and attacked me.
It may have to do with level of mob and level of pet.
